Game Summary :

Matthews went full Beast Mode
Reaves too

Vasilevskiy outplayed Woll

Robertson disappeared again in a physical game
Nylander too

Bertuzzi was good

JT was meh

McCabe caught pinching twice

Point is so underrated
Team 🇨🇦 needs him

Overall I liked our game tonight

- mr.sir

I was there... Quite sincerely in the best seats I've ever been in... Reaves was excellent. Rielly looked rusty and Keefe relied on him too heavily. Matthews launched a cannon and was sort of silent for a lot of the rest. JT was abysmal and Nylander vanished after the early hit. McCabe was scrambly. Timmins didn't have much poise... The Leafs kept letting Tampa get below the D and Woll did have to make a couple of tough saves, but he was overall very poor tonight. I wish we'd started Sammy.

I think Rielly should be eased back in. Could have put him on bottom pair and left him off special teams.

Twice.

And that was probably the highlight of the game for us Leaf fans.

Reaver still has it. Dude is a scary good fighter. I wouldn't mess with him even if you tied one arm behind his back and made him hop on one leg.

I'd love to see Reaves get some ice-time with Matthews. The guy just was a wrecking ball in the OZ and would open up a lot of time/space.

"Full beast mode" is 1 goal and 2 hits?
- Fakepartofme

He had 6 shots on net and also a couple of blocks - he looked dangerous all night.

If he plays like this in the playoffs I'll be happy.

As many as it takes.

At least he didn't cost your team 142 draft picks.

Sounds good on paper, until you put him out against top lines that have speed. Dude will get smoked by somebody like Point unless he gets lucky and lines him up in open ice or along the boards.

I do think if Reaver can maintain his level of responsible play, there is a spot for him when the playoffs come. Especially against teams like Tampa and Florida that try to throw their weight around.

I can say that in a game like yesterday's where Tampa was ramping into playoff form, the Leafs weren't there - except for Reaves. They need that level of physicality or push back or will, even - to compete with these guys who know how to win in those games. Reaves was able and willing and Kampf battled pretty hard with him to be fair to Kampf. Dewar competes, but you can see that he's a bit overmatched against the big guys and tends to shift out of direct body battles - so he lost position a number of times.

I thought McMann was ok but he was not well supported by JT or Willy. Matthews is fantastic with and without the puck, but that line of Bertuzzi and Domi has it's defensive problems and Matthews can't cover up for the number of misses and poor coverage from his wingers. I'm not sure that line actually should stay together. My impression yesterday was that Tampa were able to exploit the wall against that line in particular and get behind the D for great opportunities against Woll. I think Matthews probably had more chances on his own that the opposition, but I think Tampa had better chances against his line.

It's just one game, I suppose, but we needed our second line working and we needed better goaltending - but even with Sammy we probably lose that game 2-1.

You can dislike Reaves and the fighting - I'm not a huge fan of hockey fights - but I can say that if I were a player on the ice, I'd feed off of the electricity in the building at home and Reaves generates it. Where I was sitting you could hear everyone cheering for Reaves all game - Reaves and Matthews.

If Reaves fires up the crowd and brings them into the game, it is a definite intangible benefit.

I know he's a 6'2, 210lb farm boy from Saskatchewan, but how has no one ever said to him, "You're a big boy, eh, but don't lead with your face."

Reaves was a wrecking ball, and in the best way. He's not taking dumb penalties. He's finishing his checks. He's playing two-way responsible hockey to the best of his ability, which is limited, but he's not the liability he was earlier in the season. That early shift where he laid out Hedman and Dumba was fun to watch, even though I cringed a bit when AARP member Hedman hit the ice ass first.

Jeannot will fight anybody, but Reaver showed him who's alpha. I don't know how much ice time Reaver will get in the playoffs, but I bet it will be fun to watch when he is out there.

Reaves had a great game! He’s getting playoff ready! Too bad the team didn’t respond to his game! Still think Keefe has no idea what he’s doing. Leaving the 4th line out against Tampa on that one goal was all on him! And, seriously, yeah I know the Leafs, like every team, have had some injuries…..but there is not one line on this team!! Not one line! It’s just a bunch of players that go into the blender and let’s see who plays together tonight! You can’t tell be that familiarity doesn’t breed better play!! In the years that Keefe has been here there has never been even one consistent line. Not even on defence pairing!!! It’s crazy!

Tampa is going to be a tough out in the playoffs. I think they steamroll the Bruins if they play in first round.
