Maybe, just maybe, now hear me out, when Reaves fought and pumped up the crowd and his teammates....the stars were kinda supposed to go out and score instead of not sucking and Woll was suppose to not let in another soft goal to deflate the situation?
Not sure.
I do know:
Stamkos didn't beat up Matthews again,
Bennet didn't body slam Knies again,
Thachuck didn't run Sammy again,
etc...
We get it AW, you don't like fighting. Cool. Understand.
I don't like having a hockey team play like a bunch of curlers wrapped in soft labia and getting female dog slapped all the time without any push back or retribution.
Reaves is worth his cheap salary and is a necessary evil to stop poopty players from taking liberties on our players. He's not taking dumb penalties, he's throwing some great hits, grinding in the OZone and then occasionally fighting. He's a good/cheap 4th liner. - underhill14
This is franking nonsense.
It's crap that's been said for 100 years in hockey.
The difference between good hockey teams and crap hockey teams is good hockey teams have good hockey players who can play physical.
Bad hockey teams have guys who are physical, but can't play hockey.
Guess which category Reaves fits into. |

Unless Reeves is playing with Matthews and can't protect him on the ice, Reeves sitting on the bench for 50min per game won't protect Matthews |

In other news, the Oakland A's are following the lead of the Arizona Coyotes.
"The Oakland Athletics, who have yet to break ground on their future Las Vegas ballpark but have nevertheless spent the last few months burning all remaining bridges with the city they have called home for decades, announced Thursday that their time in Oakland will officially come to an end after this season.
The Athletics will move from Oakland Coliseum to Sutter Health Park in Sacramento, current home of the Class AAA RiverCats, for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 seasons “ahead of the team’s move to Las Vegas in 2028,” according to a news release from the team. Sutter Health Park has seats for less than 11,000 people. Tropicana Field, the smallest ballpark in the majors and the home to Tampa Bay Rays, holds more than twice that number."

The coach likes his game ...
"Well, tonight was by far and away the most physical he's been in terms of just being able to get there on time, make the contacts, have them be impactful contacts that really I thought set a tone in the game," coach Sheldon Keefe raved. "Not just that. He also got pucks back. And he's at the net-front."
And he's drawing penalties. And he's knocking Leafs villain Tanner Jeannot out of the game with his fists. |

If this is crap then why does Reaves have a job? What necessary ingredient does he bring to the table that has kept him employed in the NHL?

I agree with you that Reaves doesn’t scare opposing players into good behaviour. I do think he can be useful if he can keep up with the play which he has been better at recently. Heavy forechecks can wear down opposing D over the coarse of a series and creating chaos can be useful. |

I've got no time for goons but intimidation and physicality is still a huge part of this game. Leafs needed to be better at responding/initiating physicality. They weren't going to be able to trade Marner or Nylander for a Tkachuk or any other top 6 power forward so you toughen up in the bottom end and hope that it bleeds into the rest of the lineup. You don't have to be on a guys line to support him physically.
The team, as a whole, has improved their physical play and "push back" ALOT this year and Reaves is definitely a part of that equation.
If he's banging into Hedman, keeping the other teams "tough guys" honest, and creating havoc for 5-10 while not giving up chances/goals the other way .....he's worth it. He was poop to start but he's been good for weeks.
Subject to a dramatic drop off I'm not sure there's any real debate about whether he starts game 1. |

The point some miss is that it's not that Reaves makes Jeannot play differently it's that he (in theory) makes his teammates play differently.

No poop Sherlock. Guess which TEAM THE LEAFS ARE?!
One that you conveniently didn't list. Bad hockey teams can also have guys that don't play physical and get (frank)ing wrecked come playoff time.
But when you have a bunch of good hockey players that are soft AF, what are you supposed to do? Play Gregor??? Oh wait, maybe you want Keefe to tell them all to get tough or take Billy Blanks Tae Bo classes? Got it.
Drafting and trading for better/tougher/skilled players is not something the Leafs have done.
So one could infer that protecting these talented, soft players seems like a must do.
Not sure why you have such an issue for a guy that plays 7mins a night and costs a little over $1m.
It's one player on the 4th (frank)ing line. Relax dude.
So many other hills to die on when it comes to critiquing this (frank)ing team. |

My questions were largely rhetorical as I agree with CC's response. I was hoping to see Wedgie re(butt)al.
And just to be clear, it wasn't intended to be snarky questions on my part - I just genuinely am curious as to why GMs of contending teams value players like Reaves while casual(ish) fans like us seem to think it's a terrible/net-negative asset to have.
For the record, I'm not entirely pleased with what he brings to the table, but I think there is absolutely a reason he exists and it's not to play minutes on the poop teams in this league. |

Physically fit
Hard working
Common sense
Literate
Clean CRC
Rest of crew is currently male. She would be in camp for 8 days with them. They are harmless but some people have a hard time with that
Anyhoo, back to work now |
