None of the the teams seem too eager to grab that last spot anyway!

I know who I would be rooting for in that matchup:

Philly currently sits in a spot, but if you had to pick one current playoff team to crash and burn before qualifying, I think it would be Philly. Torts has managed to admirably polish a turd, but there aint no way that roster and goalie are punching a ticket. I gotta think the spiral is coming for them. Maybe I am wrong. - GalacticStone
The privilege to get spanked in the first round. What a time to be alive. |

All I care about with the Jays is they brought back Loonie Dog Days this season. Other than that they can go ahead and have another season of mediocrity and underachievement, why break tradition. |

I'd bet their chances at a cup are the same as landing the 1st overall pick if they missed it.
Can't remember the last time a team this bad made it in the east.

If you discount the COVID year, because Montreal got in and were terrible (they were in the North division, so I don't think that even counts for argument's sake!) - you have to go back to 2009-10, back when the format was 3 division winners were seeds 1-3, and then the next best teams were sorted 4-8 . . . . back then both Montreal and Philadelphia blahed their way in with .537 winning percentages - Philly taking the edge with 41 wins to Montreal's 39.

Ironic that MTL did so well too.
I am looking forward to the series. I mean in all likelihood Carolina will bash the team in 4 or 5 games.
But its the NHL, maybe its close and I'd tune in to a game 6 or 7 underdog matchup.
Pretty (frank)ing stupid that the 1st place team in the east might not even face them. |

The Blue Jays are where the Leafs were a couple of years ago - they should be ahead of the pace given all of their prospects maturing at once. They have a very solid starting rotation - but have had a glaring problem in the bullpen for years. Unlike the Leafs and the hunt for the great unicorn RHD, fixing up the bullpen is the easiest thing to do in all of baseball. Relievers aren't that expensive and they aren't that hard to get in trades. Instead they go out and overspend on 39 year old DHs, has-been players, or trade offensive players and promising prospects for a guy who's good in the field but can't hit - like trading stars for John McDonald. It has been a horrid two years for the Shatkins group and they deserve the vitriol they are receiving.
They spent this offseason courting the hot chick who was a 10 and they're a 4 at best, and when they didn't land her - everyone else at the dance had gone home. - Monkeypunk
Jays bullpen is ranked 10th. Only team in AL east ahead of them is TB. Bullpen not the issue. Regression in hitting is the problem. and No Danny Jansen at the moment |

Mismanagement of the starters and lack of advancing the runners during playoff games has been their biggest downfall.
The overpaid aforementioned turner will help with advancing runners and already seems to be. Can it last? We will see.
The jays really only missed out on trading for soto during the ohtani fiasco (they were his 2nd option apparently, so more of a 7/8...not a 4 imo). And there is really no proof they were ever in on soto.
As for after ohtani signed, atkins didnt do much at all to improve the team other than bring back kk, bring in ikf and turner.
The jays are spending $227m (7th in the league), most of which seems to be on pitching. I guess money was an issue.

Right now everything is close to sealed up, but there are 2 wild card spots being chases by Detroit, Philly and Washington. Washington is the favourite and then depending on which odds maker you ask, it's Detroit or Philly. Philly is up by 1 point with 6 games to go, and 4 of those against teams below them in the standings; Detroit has 7 games remaining and 4 of those are against teams blow them in the standings.
A 6 point lead on Tampa with 8 games to go between us? We play each other twice? I'd say Wednesday's game goes a long way towards determining how tight your sphincter is going to feel over the next two weeks. - Monkeypunk

Off-season was a disaster
Planned to not resign KK, move Varsho to CF and get another quality OF ❌
Sign Ohtani ❌
IKF was never in the plans
KK was an unfortunate necessity
JT was an afterthought
🔥 Shatkins
I wanted Arozarena and Paredes 😔 |

I just attempted a new strategy in sports betting. I placed 15 individual bets on all the underdogs in nba and nhl. $1 bets so it cost me $15.
Odds of coming out ahead? No idea but my biggest payout is $10.50 on a $1 bet if spurs beat the nuggets.
Do I come out of this with positive gain? I’ll report back after the games. |

curious how that ends up.
im not smart enough to figure it out. but I bet $20us on Matthews to score 2 goals against the yotes, when I as in vegas. and he did paid $100 (80 profit)
I dont even know if this is possible.
but what if you placed 3 bets each game, AM to score 1, 2 and 3 goals.
wonder over a season how much that paid out

From what I’ve seen Matthews is always around -135 to score a goal so you don’t double up your money. I think you would be a head if you did bet him every game though.
Matthews is like +3000 to get a hat trick every game. You need him to hit 4 a year to break even. You were probably laughing if you did it the first 2 games this year.
I usually place a $5 bet on td scorers parlay on sundays during football season. On one Sunday I hit a $5 that would’ve paid $5800. Unfortunately I got scared and cashed out when it was a $120. I hit a couple early but had one guy going to ot so i didn’t think it would hit. The effer scored the game winning td and 10 mins later the rest of my guys hit.
That was a tough one |
