Magic # update (for the Leafs to finish ahead of each team):

Tampa: 11

Washington: 6

Detroit: 2

Islanders: 1

Philly: 1

Please note: this assumes that in each case, the tie-breaker would go to the other team.

I switched to the game after the Leafs' game ended.

Was a pretty exciting last few minutes.

well yes and no.
yes - they beat TB to give the Leafs a little more breathing room in the standing
no - if they lost, the Leafs would be this much close to punching their ticket to the postseason.

True, and I guess it depends on who you want as a first round matchup. Honestly, I don't think any match up looks great for either team. Whether you end up with Florida, Boston, New York, or Tampa, it's gonna be a dog fight. I think I'd rather NYR.

I'm the most pessimistic Leafs fan on earth, but even I believe that the Leafs will win one of their remaining games, or the Islanders and Philly won't win all of their remaining ones.

Isles and Philly have zero chance. They might not be mathematically eliminated yet, but it would take a plane crash for them to qualify.

The Islanders are in particularly tough, in that they need to win all their games in regulation (and have the Leafs lose every game in regulation).

Anything less than that and the Leafs win the first tie-breaker.

Do you mean Pitt, because I think Philly has a good chance in that they currently are in a playoff spot.

Right now everything is close to sealed up, but there are 2 wild card spots being chases by Detroit, Philly and Washington. Washington is the favourite and then depending on which odds maker you ask, it's Detroit or Philly. Philly is up by 1 point with 6 games to go, and 4 of those against teams below them in the standings; Detroit has 7 games remaining and 4 of those are against teams blow them in the standings.

A 6 point lead on Tampa with 8 games to go between us? We play each other twice? I'd say Wednesday's game goes a long way towards determining how tight your sphincter is going to feel over the next two weeks.

The Blue Jays are where the Leafs were a couple of years ago - they should be ahead of the pace given all of their prospects maturing at once. They have a very solid starting rotation - but have had a glaring problem in the bullpen for years. Unlike the Leafs and the hunt for the great unicorn RHD, fixing up the bullpen is the easiest thing to do in all of baseball. Relievers aren't that expensive and they aren't that hard to get in trades. Instead they go out and overspend on 39 year old DHs, has-been players, or trade offensive players and promising prospects for a guy who's good in the field but can't hit - like trading stars for John McDonald. It has been a horrid two years for the Shatkins group and they deserve the vitriol they are receiving.

They spent this offseason courting the hot chick who was a 10 and they're a 4 at best, and when they didn't land her - everyone else at the dance had gone home.

Probably any fanbase that had aspirations of their team having post season success or "change" would post the same crap if they continued to fail.

Philly currently sits in a spot, but if you had to pick one current playoff team to crash and burn before qualifying, I think it would be Philly. Torts has managed to admirably polish a turd, but there aint no way that roster and goalie are punching a ticket. I gotta think the spiral is coming for them. Maybe I am wrong.

None of the the teams seem too eager to grab that last spot anyway!

Intriguing Tampa vs. Bruins first rounder is a possibility...

hmm i dont see the bullpen as an issue. they drastically improved that over the last few seasons. not top of the league or anything but 5-10th

my comment is more on...its 5 games ..way to early to have a hissy fit
