1) Poulin hasn't been the picture of health in his career.
2) His coach hates fighting. Would have been the dumbest decision of his career to get wrecked fighting with Sullivan as his coach. He might never get another look with the Penguins. - madmike71
I just watched Poulin's fight a couple months ago with Garrett Wilson. Maybe he was a little gun shy after that, he got bloodied. (Wilson needed helped off the ice too, but not sure if that was a result of Wilson's hit on Zohorna, Poulin hitting him in retaliation, or happened in the fight.)
Did exactly what Grinder asked for though. His teammate got leveled and he went right after a bigger man. Maybe he just respects Zohorna more than Carter? |

If you guys listen to Darcy Tuckers interview with the Chiclets he pretty much hits the nail on the head with what’s wrong with all these call ups that aren’t really into making it. - Grinder47
Darcy Tucker was an interesting and entertaining guest. His Alexander Mogilney story especially was funny and revealing. And to your point, talent only takes you so far. After that it is who has more desire.
But this is nothing new. People have known this for years. My father was told he was too small to be a catcher. Scouts told him he can lose over twenty pounds in a season. As often happens when talking about sports steroids became a topic. His reply was if I'd have known about steroids in the fifties, who's to say I wouldn't have taken them. |

Ned starting again tonight. Wouldn't be surprised to see them sign him to an extension and trade Jarry in the offseason. |

I don't even know the context. Was he "defending" Carter? I just saw an innocuous play where Poulin went a little overboard with a couple of cross checks. When he was challenged, he made the right call to skate away. Would have been a dumb fight. His coach would have hated it, and it wouldn't have done a thing to improve his chances of sticking. Likely hurt his chances.

I’m hoping it’s just Sullivan. Guys probably look at DOC and are like I better be (frank)ing harmless on the ice so I get to stay. |

Why challenge that? Almost as brain dead as the play that lead to the goal |

Yeah, that was obviously not goalie interference, very dumb to challenge. |

Man are the Pens bad at 3v3. It's almost like they never practice it....'cause they don't. |

Right. Yohe says they never practice it. So definitely no plan. I remember Malkin, Sid and Letang dominating it years ago. |

The Pens got about 8 months of Carter the good player and about 2.5 years of a retirement party for Carter. - madmike71

If Jeff Carter were a 24 year old call up from WBS and played exactly like he does right now now you would (frank)ing hate him. |

Their top players are mostly not fast, hence it's not surprising that they struggle at 3-on-3. |

9 straight losses on the road. 5 more road games left: NYR, NJD, WSH, TOR, NYI. Wouldn't be surprising to see them lose out on the road. |

LOL! Sullivan whining about the officiating.
Let's see, we give up a goal on our first power play, interference or not. We give up a two-goal lead halfway thru the third. We go 0-2 on the power play. We get outplayed in overtime. All against the 29th place team in the league.
This is embarrassing, Sullivan needs to go.

And it's the end of the game. Compounding that though is the clear lack of a plan. It looks very much like the PP where they don't even try to escape coverage. |

That goalie interference challenge was the worst of his career. It wasn't even close.

True, but I get the complaint. Recall much earlier in the season the Pens had a big goal overturned on a goalie interference call with similarly minimal contact by us with the other goalie that seemed to have no impact on the goal scored. His point then and now is that there's no consistency in these calls, which is true.
That doesn't though make it a good idea to challenge a clearly good goal like last night. |
