At this point my primary hope is nothing more than the leafs having at least one of them healthy game to game.
- Dozzer

Exactly.
Go with the hot hand and hope that hot hand gets even hotter for at least 2 rounds.

It’s not about hot hand - it was who’s healthy. That’s what Dozzer was saying.

If both healthy you don’t put in the guy with 32 nhl games and 4 playoffs total in unless he grossly outperforms Sammy going into the playoffs.

The Newfoundland Growlers are in deep, deep trouble.

Same as the Habs’ ECHL affiliate.

Wow. I was just reading about that - they may fold and not even finish out the season. That's insane. The part that bothers me more than anything is the fact that both the Growlers and the Lions are in a playoff hunt with 3 other teams all within 5 points of one another - and the vote which will determine whether they can or cannot finish out the season may swing towards ousting them because it would give the other 3 teams a better chance of making the playoffs.

That seems to run contrary to the way I think of sports and sports leagues. You want to win "at all costs", but I guess I always felt that the integrity of the sport, rules and league should be paramount to that.

What's the deal with Gio? Is he still hurt, or has he been a healthy scratch? It would be a good thing to have him available for the playoffs. You can't have too many d-men.

I'd love to know the financials on all ECHL teams.

I'm guessing most of the teams would be happy for the Growlers to fold - the travel costs must be terribly high.

The required time on LTIR was up yesterday. He’s still in but eligible to come off. He participated in the practice/skills session yesterday. They have room to activate him but would need to send guys down to add him and Jarnrok

Once he's cleared to play, doesn't the team have to activate him? I am not sure how LTIR works with that. Or, can they just park him there for convenience until they can make room?

I'm not up on who's waiver eligible for the Leafs. Do they have anyone they can send down who doesn't need to clear?

It seems like a healthy Gio would automatically become your #6 or #7 guy.

I don't know. It's a fairly diverse league in terms of geographical coverage. The East comprises of teams in Carolina, Florida, Quebec, Newfoundland, Virginia, Pennsylvania, Maine, Georgia and New York. The west is largely mid-west, but it does have Idaho and Utah, which are a bit more western mid-west. Next year a team is coming in Nevada (owned by Tim Tebow), so I'm not sure that travel to Newfoundland is anything exceptional compared to the other locations.

That said, given the relative popularity of the league, the expenses in running it must be very high due to the wide disparity in locations.

Without knowing anything at all about it, I'm surprised junior hockey leagues are financially viable at all.

Another ridiculously easy Puckdoku.

9/9, uniqueness of 35.

I should have done it with only Leafs players - still would have only taken me 5 minutes.

Is there any way you can clear it and try again?

It's the flight costs.

For all the other teams, you can fly for cheap to a major airport, and then bus the rest of the way.

That ain't gonna work for St. John's.

Back when the Leafs' AHL affiliate was the St. John's Maple Leafs, I went to a convention held out there - in Mile One Arena.

I got chatting with the facilities manager - he told me that most teams would fly into St. John's and play two games in a row, so they didn't have to make so many trips out there.

He said that if the first game had fights, the second game would always sell out.

I still have a St. John's Maple Leafs toque somewhere. Made by Adidas, the thing is franking bulletproof.

And on a related note, my daughter has now officially stolen my Leafs 75th anniversary fleece vest. It still looks brand new. Fleece is a very scary material - I don't think this franking thing will ever break down.
