Nope
It was ALL Woll’s fault
A number of experts pointed that out yesterday - mr.sir
Nobody said that.
You clearly think Woll is the answer since you are the expert who closes off nearly every post with "In Woll We Trust" - maybe you and Santo should hang out!
Woll wasn't why they lost last night (he didn't help but he wasn't why) - yes some folks (me included) pointed out he wasn't having a great night and his #'s since Sammy came back from his re-set vacation have been not as good as Sammy's for the most part.
The first goal he gave up last night was hot garbage and he didn't look great on one other one. The 2 on 1 he had no chance on (thanks to his D man doing nothing right except get in the way and make it harder on Woll) and the breakaway is a breakaway.
It doesn't have to be Woll or Sammy - I'm happy / will be happy if they both are playing well - what a great problem to have that would be.

I would expect us to play whichever goalie is playing best at the start of playoffs. Granted, Woll wasn’t great yesterday but I am not concerned moving forward. He was injured for a long time and is just rounding into form. Lest we forget, he already claimed #1 goalie by the end of last year’s playoffs.
My frustration is hearing people wanting to throw a rookie, overachieving, team leading, league minimum goalie under the bus for a guy who was sent on waivers, nobody picked up, makes 4.6x more than JW and everyone on here said should never play another game for the Leafs. All of this 1 game after he stopped 5 breakaways and kept us in the game vs Carolina.
Woll’s best days are still ahead of him. He may or may not be the long term solution, but is the youngest and cheapest current option and still has lots of potential to grow. Look at the defense…the amount of odd man rushes says something about our lack of structure and commitment to a sound defensive game.

Do you think he had a good game yesterday?
Edit: Nevermind, read your response above.
I said yesterday "Woll is not the answer"....more cuz it sounded like the Marvin Gaye tune but also because I don't think he's ready for the #1 spot...yet.
He may end up being that guy but for now, and in the hot bed market of Toronto, he doesn't look ready for that pressure.

There is something fishy about you, but I like the cut of your jib.

Re: "Everyone on here said he should never play another game for the Leafs" is a sure quite a few did but not everyone - I sure as hell didn't because I'm a goalie and I know how delicate confidence can be and how it impacts your play on the ice (despite mine being 10pm on a Wed beer league)!
He didn't claim the #1 spot in the playoffs, he was forced to play because Sammy got hurt but he did very well all things considered.
I don't subscribe to throwing either under the bus but it's the Leafs and goalies are the best or the worst -there is no in between for many Leaf fans. I love Woll for alot of things, including his size, looking so calm most of the time, his composure and his price tag. I agree he is starting to come into his own and had he not got injured he may have been anointed the starter.
Woll's game vs Carolina was unreal but it was a bit of a blip vs where his game has been since Jan but I hope it's where he gets back to and stays.
The defense / seemingly lack of defensive structure is something both goalies have to deal with - the Leafs are what they are and they don't seem to play more defensively sound in front of either goalie - sadly.
I just don't want them to rush Woll if they don't have to because I also see him as an important part of the future.
Not entirely sure how loyalty plays into it really but if you mean people need to stop poopting on goalies or players when they have a bad game/stretch and/or put them on a pedestal when they have a great stretch - well that's never going to happen with leaf fans. It's just not.....pick almost any player on the roster not named Auston and you will see it.
Floater / Soft Willy vs Willy the goal scoring sniper
Mitch the big hat pencil neck dipsy doodler / Mitch the smooth as glass, playmaking pp/pk machine
Benny the big hitter, tough D man / Benny the not a starter and only in due to injuries guy
And on and on and on it goes. lol
In the hottest of the 2 goalies at that time we trust!
(But wish our D was better so we didn't have to trust as much).

Yup well summarized.
And Woll pre injury had a stretch where he was far better than Sammy at his best this season.
Woll put that game together vs Ottawa where he got injured and against the Canes.
Sammy never puts together games like that. Sammy is simply an average goalie.
With that being said yes, if Sammy is in a better head space and health by game 1 he is of course the starter.
Also its all a little irrelevant because unless the Leafs sweep or the game 1 starter plays at an elite level even during a loss, the other goalie will get a chance as well. At the end of the day it will be about who shows up when it counts.
Which is reasonable to want the goalie who has been able to perform at a higher level when at his best, which is Woll.
