Lol just ignore that - ClaudeFather
It wasn't a comparison of rosters. Obviously, those earlier teams had better top end talent.

Itâs makes a lot of sense to me. The Flyers are far away from being a legitimate contender. The only way to get there is thru the draft which is a long process if a team doesnât tank and doesnât rush their prospects. Why not keep Tortorella, who is a sideshow and appeals to a large part of the fanbase, as the face of the franchise to take all the love and hate while the rebuilding process goes on in the background? The Flyers remain in the spotlight and Briere can draft and develops the future. - psuhockey
I guess and am not discounting your post whatsoever. But in all honesty are we at the point that the Flyers are so smart to be orchestrating this to take the spotlight off the players and let Danny work in the shadows?

For conversation, in terms of the Flyers mailing it in, not playing with effort, etc.
This season, under Tortorella, the Flyers currently have a .564 points percentage.
Under Dave Hakstol
15/16 .585
16/17 .537
17/18 .598
Alain Vigneault
19/20 .645
That's 3 seasons under two past head coaches where the Flyers had a higher points percentage that this season under Tortorella. - MJL
Well you certainly achieved the âconversationâ part. A team with good players did marginally better than a team with much worse players. If anything youâre showing us how those teams underachieved.

I like the way this group plays. Talent wise they need to. I think they do have more talent than I thought and I like the way some of the young guys have progressed. I donât particularly love some of Torts methods but I donât hate them as much as watching a team mail games in far to regularly over the last 10 years and no one seemed to be held accountable. - landros 2

You believe Konecny is going to be traded? I don't. I think they're laying the ground work for a new deal already. - MJL
No not at all. Maybe I worded it incorrectly. My point is if this team is truly rebuilding they donât sign TK to a long term deal. I love TK but not what he is gonna command for both years and aav. Deal him in the offseason. Otherwise, itâs not a true rebuild. And even though the Flyers Brass call it a rebuild⌠well, letâs be honest here. It is a rebuild on the fly. |

I agree but there is no way they're going to trade him. If they were truly rebuilding, they would explore trading Konecny.

I think signing Tippett to that long-term deal should be an indicator that TK gets dealt but we won't know until we know. I agree I'd like to see TK moved after this season.
It's also possible, right or wrong, that once they saw there was a chance to make the playoffs, that they put off a Laughton trade until the offseason to give him one last run with the team out of respect. - anti-lame
Not just out of respect but, we have a top 2 penalty kill in the league and he pretty much starts it every kill. Hes also dangerous shorthanded. Why would we hand him to anyone else while in the hunt for the playoffs? |

Interesting takes from Ryan Callahan and Jody Shelley. They both played for Torts and said basically what I said the other day (patting myself on the back here). They basically said that Torts wants his Captain to march into his office and have it out with him. This is obviously similar to Frost. Coots went to the media and whined. That may be why he is still out of the lineup. Buck up butter cup! Go give Torts a piece of your mind! You're the Captain...act like it!!!! Little take from the movie Rudy. Thanks! - Phillywhiteout

For those of you not named MJL that actually care to hear both sides of the story, I suggest you listen to this week's Hockey & Hounds interview with Torts. This was an extremely insightful interview that outlines the struggles Torts has had with Frost, and how they have both seemingly turned the corner in a positive way. He also covertly discussed the issue with Couturier when discussing what happens when how a player assesses himself is different from how the coaching staff assesses the player, and his feelings about Cam York. - jd250

From what I understand, they generically talked. The assistants have pulled together video to.go through specifics with Sean. Tortorella is available if Couturier wants to advocate for himself and push back a bit in a one-on-one conversation. But the player has to initiate that.
Sanheim and Frost both did that after getting constantly nitpicking and singled out. York, last year, absolutely refused to take the bait and Tortorella eventually came around this season regardless.
So there's not only one way to get to a better place. - bmeltzer
It's pretty clear that Tortorella is slowly but surely creating a toxic environment. The players as a whole right now are willing to deal with it due to having some success. Once the players realize that the style of play, the poor in game strategy, the poor talent development and all the pain and bumps and bruises from putting their bodies on the line shot blocking. Isn't going to lead to much overall. The players tolerance level for Tortorella's BS will waiver.

So yesterday, Bill said that Torts was the one in favor of making Coots captain. Wouldn't you think that the master manipulator would have chosen TK or someone else and forced the front office (since you think he manipulates everyone) to agree as many on here speculated since obviously Torts doesn't like Coots? Why would torts scratch the guy who he wanted to be captain? I know you won't answer me since you don't answer anyone who calls you out on your bullying troll tactics. Just asking for a friend.

Torts will be gone when he is no longer useful. Heâs like âthe Bobâsâ they have a specific role to play out then they are gone.
Thatâs my hope anyway. DB just had to know when that time is. |
