No he is a player like the rest.

I already answered a similar statement about Laughts, yes he should have sat. That is 1 player, who else should have sat?

- WhiskeyMan

I don’t like the sitting ….I do think he deserves a bit more regards….but this is the NHL and he has been bad for an extended period….

farabee struggled last year. it was expected that coots would this year after two surgeries and the time off.
- Peter Richards

2021 bee had 34 points
2022 bed had 39 points

Yep he struggled.

Would he have produced more if he did not get injury, most likely.
He has 46 points this season. So maybe he would not have produced much more.

If he sits more than 1 or 2 games then I will not be happy. But yes it is a professional league, and they are what have you done for me lately not hold your hand and hope you play better.

He wears a sweater like the rest, he get paid like the rest. He laces them up like the rest. So yes he is like the rest.

But wait, he is the captain, so he should be held to higher standards. His comments do not sound like what a leader should say.

- WhiskeyMan

Seriously? They all get paid the same? His comments are appropriate. Expect more of it in the future. Good for Couts for speaking out against this bumhole.

Maybe strip him of the captaincy if he’s so terrible. Remind us of the good ole days when lindros was here. 😜

That’s a bit of a stretch. The defense is depleted from injuries and the trade and we no longer have a goalie tandem. It was sustainable for 60 games, they just don’t have the depth.
- ClaudeFather

Hart won some games in October that the Flyers had no business even being close. Dead last in PP % pretty much all year. There's plenty of other stats to back that up. Shot blocking is pretty much the only thing the Flyers have to hang their hat on.

https://www.statmuse.com/...iladelphia-flyers-16/2024

32nd PP%, 26 Shooting %, 26th sv%, 30th in Shots against/gm

A for effort, everything else not so much.

Pretty much every break on the ice went the Flyers way in the early part of the season and now they are not. Many of the alarm bells going off now were going off earlier, they were just ignored.

Factor in the overplaying of Coots (which plenty of people said during the early part of the season), roster decisions, lack of depth, and the probability of injuries with how they play the wheels falling off were easy money.

Then again as long as ND drops the gloves once in awhile who cares, amirite?

I’m not happy he’s sitting tonight. Hopefully it has a desired effect.

stfu...yeah lets talk about ex selke.

how is it possible he is playing on fumes? well lets see. double back surgery. missed 2 seasons. that is a possible valid reason no?

There was no plan for him. Only being the parrot that you are, you cant see it or wont accept it.

no player is happy they are out so that statement is meaningless.

he is still one of your top 4 centers. Dems the facts slapnuts.

what about the "room" you always talk about. how will that effect the "boys"?

- hello it's me 2050

Then you agree with me that Couts is probably hurt and not telling anyone outside the team and thus if he gets scratched it will be for this reason?

Put your energy elsewhere guys. They aren't winning this game with or without Coots.

My problem with this narrative of blaming Torts for running Couts into the ground. Let's presume Couts is not injured because he said he was not. Doesn't this debunk the notion that Torts ran him into the ground? If other centers on the team were playing better earlier in the season (Yes Frost, talking about you), maybe Torts would not have to play Couts 20+ minutes. But regardless, there is no evidence that I have seen or read that points to Couts current play being a result of playing 20+ minutes earlier in the season. Even when Couts was playing 20+ minutes earlier in the season, I didn't think he was playing all that well, in fact he said as much when interviewed, that his game was still a ways off. Over the season, his game just hasn't got there to warrant playing the big minutes. Don't blame the coach, blame the player. The coach is doing what he is supposed to do, coach to win games with the roster he has been given by the GM.
- jd250

Gotcha...it's Frost's fault that Torts played Coots for over 20 minutes a game, and most intelligent fans called it out saying he needed to be eased back in.
Maybe, just maybe if Torts DIDN't scratch Frost for so many games at the beginning of the season, he could have eased Coots in, and slowly added more minutes if Coots could take on more.

Even your buddy Jason on Flyers daily was moaning about how much ice time Coots was getting and how it could effect his long term play this year. Bill did as well. But Torts was Torts, overplayed Coots and wore him out, and sat Frost.

In my opinion, well deserved. Couts has not played well for quite a while now. So which is it? Should Torts give Couts 20+ minutes a game so that he can work his game back to form, but of course risk running him into the ground, or give Couts less responsibility by demoting him in the lineup so he has more time to get his game back, and not be run into the ground? I see you and others blaming Torts for both at this point which is laughable.
- jd250

How about you start the season playing him 10-12 minutes a game, and let the game come to him, instead of 20-25 a night right from the get go. He should not have been playing more than 15 a night for the first 30-40% of the sason, seeing as he hadn't played in 2 years.

On a positive note, this will only hasten Tortorella’s demise as coach and this draft looks to have a distinctive top 12 so another loss would put them in striking distance of getting there.

Believe me I'm not mad or disappointed about missing the playoffs. I'm more mad at the fact they're more than likely picking in the teens again.
- Pelle31Forever

They just would've traded it for an injury prone dman and a 2027 2nd rounder anyway.

Of course it's happened before, but you don't routinely see teams healthy scratch their Captain. I find it especially weird that they are doing so like a month after appointing him.

Based on Bill's tweet (or whatever they call posts now) Coots isn't happy. Even if the Flyers wanted to trade him in the offseason (which they could only do with Coots permission and only to a team Coots approves of), could they?

I'm just thinking this has the potential to get really ugly between Torts and Coots before the end of the year with no easy solution. Especially if the losses pile up.

Keith Jones" If you don't want to be a Flyer, you won't be"

Coots "I am plssed at the treatment. I don't want to be a Flyer anymore"

Buyout? Retain salary for a dozen years? Looking like a great situation.

Blows my mind and reeks of desperation as in Torts has no idea what buttons to push to get a response out of his players.

That's how odd this is. Don't normally bench your captain. I wonder how many games before he comes back? 8 0 loss tonight.

I’m guessing Couts goes to Briere at seasons end and basically tells him, trade me or bring in a new coach. He won’t go public and make a scene but he will let both Briere and Jones know that his playing any more under Torts is not an option.

This guy has given his all to this team for over 12 years now, he deserves better than to be crapped on by this arrogant man child of a coach.

Mr. Jack Adams is the face of the franchise, not Coots. It's still laughable that Tort's face was on the season ticket holder letter last year.

The Flyers sold their fans on the coach, not the players.

The Flyers right now :

"I can tell you one thing - with John Tortorella, it doesn’t matter who it is. That’s what he’s known for. He treats everybody the same way," Briere said.

That’s a (frank)ing lie.
