it would be awesome to bench the captain at this stage. Wonder how the "room" would react?

So basically the Flyers are just a dumping ground so the AV’s can clear cap space to load up for a Cup run - PLindbergh31
Yea, Brière will get his name engraved in the Stanley Cup if AVS win. |

That was the cost of getting the first rd pick. They had to take on cap. Not hard to see.
If Walker was getting you a first just as is, the flyers would have done it w/o taking RyJo back.

They make a big deal about naming Couturier captain in February, and in March the coach is going to healthy scratch him.
What a dysfunctional organization. |

It’s possible that Couturier is injured or run down by all the ice time he got earlier after being away for nearly 2 years. I know a lot of people made the observation earlier in the year that the Flyers were overplaying him. |

I don't believe so. I just don't think he is the same player he was two plus years ago most likely due to the nature of the injury, and the game is just faster now than ever. He is averaging 18 minutes a game this season, and in the past has routinely averaged over 20 minutes a game. Just another narrative to try to throw the coach under the bus IMO. |

coach is a clown for playing him as much as he did early. that's the cost to want to win every game
off double back surgery and out 2 years they should have been very cautious. you now play the long game as he is here for what another 6 years? nah run him into the ground
They had no plan on his minutes or games played. pure stupidity. |

The speed of the game is not an issue. The issue is that there is no doubt, even not being 100% that Couturier is one of the top 4 centers on the team. If it's a physical issue fine. If not then the coach is just being a jackass.
Did you look at the replay yet? |

o yea, lets say this for the folks with their heads stuck in Torts zipper, there is ZERO chance that all the ice time coming back after 2 years, has kept him fresh for the home stretch.

Coots is obviously playing through some sort of injury. If he's really this worn down and slow that remaining 6 years of that contract are gonna be a hoot! He gave the Bruins that 5th goal the other night. Where the puck was Sanheim on that 4th goal? - Phillywhiteout
Sanheim played it very poorly as he was up in no mans land. The Forwards on the back check just stood and watched. (Deslauriers and Atkinson). The Flyers attention to detail in the defensive zone has been pretty bad lately.

This looks like years past and now their PK is leaving all kinds of passing lanes open.

Wonder if Torts was even on board with naming Couturier captain. Didn’t he start dropping down in the lineup pretty much immediately after being named captain |

I do wonder if Torts does scratch Coots as captain and the bottom continues to fall out if he is in trouble in the summer. I know the easy answer is "no". Here's where I think it gets murkey. HC usually has control over his staff. Rocky Thompson running the PP has been awful. He is a Torts guy, no guarantee he goes. Does he continue to insert Staal in the top 6, when it looks like the speed of the game is too fast for him down the stretch? Jonesy and Berube are supposedly really good friends. Berube is going to get another HC job in the near future. If Coots gets scratched and is not injury related, I think Torts is not reading the room. Pretty sure the alternate captain who was pretty bad earlier in the season did not get scratched. Going to be an interesting summer. |

Torts IS NOT going to healthy scratch Coots! He is battling through some type of nagging injury or fatigue. Berube could be the next HC though and then Torts would move upstairs. Just speculation of course.

I think it's pretty fair to say that if a coach has missed the playoffs or lost in the 1st-round in 13 of the past 16 seasons... it might be a stretch to categorize the guy as a "winner" today.
And yes, he's technically won before but that was literally in a totally different era of on-ice and off-ice rules. And yes he's got a lot of career wins but his actual winning % is not high (he's down around Mike Yeo, John Stevens level). - Tomahawk
I cant stand Jorts, but I wont fault him for BOB turning into a sieve in the playoffs after Venzia winning campaigns. His Cbls teams lived and died by BOB |

Where are people coming up with this stuff? Simple observation as well as a some reporting of the practice lines. Couturier is no doubt not 100% but he's been playing and there are zero reports that he is not healthy enough to play. If he's not in the lineup for the next game. It's basically a healthy scratch. Tortorella is pissed at him for the turnover. It fits a pattern. Demote a player down in lines, cut ice time and then scratch a player.
