That stat means absolutely nothing though. - Peter Richards
I think it's pretty fair to say that if a coach has missed the playoffs or lost in the 1st-round in 13 of the past 16 seasons... it might be a stretch to categorize the guy as a "winner" today.
And yes, he's technically won before but that was literally in a totally different era of on-ice and off-ice rules. And yes he's got a lot of career wins but his actual winning % is not high (he's down around Mike Yeo, John Stevens level). |

possible though imo I doubt it. - hello it's me 2050
It will be an interesting offseason. They could try and improve the blueline or just ride it out with Zamula, Ristolainen and Attard as the 5-6-7. Either wouldn’t surprise me. I think a lot will depend on what they do with their first 1st round pick. |
|
|
|
Good on the Flyers for planning to sign Wayne Simmonds to a one day contract and honor him in April as he retires. Interesting fact. Simmonds got Selke votes in his 2nd year of his ELC with the Kings.

I think they will try very hard to land a big name dman via free agency or trade. Very hard.
yeah that pick may be in play possibly. Wouldn't be shocked either way. They have 2 so one may be moved. |

I can't see them moving the pick unless they want to move down to get someone else and get say a second. They're not trading the pick for a 35 Yr old vet. |

They only have to carry the prorated amount of his $4M for the season.
Seeler, Risto and Drysdale were all on LTIR pre-trade, IIRC. They had to have the available space in place before trading for him. - Tomahawk
Capfriendly is not clear right now. On the main page, they have the Flyers listed in LTIR but on the team page. All injured players are listed on IR.

I know nothing. Not an insider except for my internal workings.
And this product emerged from there.
There are people here who are definitely consumed by sports. They are passionate and well-informed, and that ain't me.
To me, this is a sideshow. I start my day by going over articles concerning the Flyers. Mostly to avoid being blindsided by happenstance, SOME under the control of management. A chance to project outcomes for the team.
I expect cyclic variations in the quality of the components throughout the organization, with attendant smooth and rough transitions. You hope that the modifications will be moderate and beneficial (Don't entrust your feelings to 'Home Runs.) but that's a thin hope often crushed by circumstances. As an instance, our Defense's injuries, the desperate attempts to shore it up, to retain the rebuild process, and laboring to fit within financial constraints, while getting into the POs. Perhaps even make a profit.
It's 32 teams looking for luck. Nothing is better than a few lucky breaks and nothing is worse than a few unfortunate bounces.
So, what I concluded a while ago, is that sports suck except as conversational gambits. My life is not changed in any significant manner except I get a boost when the Flyers do well, and I may have an extra beer when the SHTF.
When the crowd here gets unruly and unfun I remember Philly.com and how I would cause havoc because of my Richardish ways. For me it was fun, but damn I wasted a lot of time over this crap. Consolidating facts with MY EGO's NEEDS is why I should have been a lawyer. I'm not that guy anymore and my raging is devoted to more(?) substantive issues.
It's because I'm old that the treadmarks from earlier experiences are fading and the desire to get more has lessened.
'Moderation in everything' is a great mission statement for me.
I hope all of the tirades and insults help you to gain the pains that will cause you to see a different perspective. Lumps and bumps can be disturbing but positive if you recognize them.
Now back to the fray!! |

They won't be able to take on a D-man with a high AAV and keep TK. Unless they are able to move Risto and a few other players.
It would be typical Flyers though. I believe the 2024 picks are 100% in play.

I dont know the cap situation off the top of my head. They buy out cal and ryjo that gives them some cash!!! They dont have hart as that saves money. Is this the year they move Ellis contract? |

I'm thinking that tomorrow night is a statement game! Yes, the odds are stacked against them, but this is a revenge game. That team came in and kicked your ass on home ice and they are coming back for another game tomorrow night. If they get curb stomped again then I guess there prolly is no need to make the playoffs cause they will just get waxed in 4 straight games. - Phillywhiteout
Was always going to be the result....that is why trying to make the playoffs and the failure to trade guys like Seeler, Laughton and Staal was a dumb way to approach this. They needed to trade as much as they could have for as many shots at players as possible.
Yes, I would take my shot at a 4th or 5th rounder than continue to parade Seeler and Staal out there. They are both easily replacable, and probably even from within.
Seeler is not worth 12m...that is a bad contract. |

Just please no massive contracts to anyone 27 or older. Don’t give up good draft assets for anyone who is not able to be part of the long-term plans. A package for like an Owen Power (not that he’s available just an example) is ok, but sending picks/prospects for a Drew Doughty (again not available) is stupid. Please no Noah Hannifin (too old for a rebuild and costly and really not much different that Sanheim). Please no Montour at age 30. Flyers need to have good cap management so they can spend and extend once the pieces are in place. The pieces are not in place at the moment. |

They have $3mil available for next year. They need a backup goalie.
Atkinson, RyJo, Petersen, Hathaway and TK are in the final years. If they move all five without retaining or taking back a contract that would free up $23mil. Ellis and Risto are still basically untradeable at this point in my opinion.
Realistically they trade RyJo for nothing and 50% retained. Petersen will get bought out. That's roughly $5.3mil additional. I do not think that Atkinson has any value. Hathaway and TK get extensions if I was gambling with my money.

I thought Simmonds was an IDEAL Flyer.
In his prime, he entertained the crap out of me.
The Team is showing respect to him that he EARNED.
Assuming my billionaire status will occur, I WANT 20 guys just like him when I purchase a team.
Goalies would be a mere option.
I'm thankful that the FLyers are honoring him. Kudos.

funny as never even thought about GH getting an ext.
RR agree and would just keep him unless you can move him without retention.
how many players can you buy out in 1 offseason?

Not sure but I would not be surprised if RyJo, Atkinson and Petersen got bought out. It's pretty clear all three players do not have Torts seal of approval.
So what's better? having $14mil on your cap for three players you do not want or having $4.7mil next year and $4.7mil the following year?
