Why did dubas get EK then for 10 mil for next 3 years or whatever? I would rather have matheson at least he hits and sticks up for teammates and alot cheaper.

this is how I know you don't actually watch hockey and therefore your opinions are irrelevant.

I think EK will be much better next year, and I think he was pretty good this year. I'm not optimistic about Graves.

Boyd was right... They had few nice games, then fell right back into the same habits. If the players are tuning out the coach, we need a new coach. Scratch that... They need a new coach....period.

No other improvements to the roster matter unless Sully is gone.

Agree, this is the biggest change they need to make.

Throw Smith (if around) and Rackell in the pile of guys capable of having significantly better seasons.

Both Dubas and the beat have explicitly stated they didn’t want to lock up another 30 year old forward.

If the Pens were in the playoffs that would have stopped mattering and he’d be resigned right now

- Victoro311

I'm not really sure about that anymore. I think Dubas was prepared to let him walk if the Pens were in the playoff race. I think your first statement is spot on... He didn't want another aging guy on a long term deal.

The second part is something Yohe has said repeatedly. Maybe it’s just a hunch of his but he’s said it multiple times that if the Pens were competitive this year Guentzel would have been signed

Jakes agent apparently made some comments about Dubas never engaging in any serious discussions. If rumors are correct, they didn't really talk at all this season. Seems like an odd approach if you have a strong interest in doing a deal with a player.

Just kind of weird that you'd let one season of success or lack of success determine whether you want to ink a guy for 75-80mil. Compare that to what they're saying about Sid's new deal.

Always felt like they wanted Jake on a team friendly deal and they weren't all that interested in a market rate deal. Who knows... I could be reading too much into it.

I think the issue is this team never gained traction and were in wait and see mode for a really long time until they just finally bottomed out. I think if we were clear cut top 3 in our division, things would have played out super differently, but while we were in the race we were always more of a wildcard team.

No I think your kinda on with that. They aren't going to pay a forward more than Sid. (Yes jb55 I'm aware that Geno had a higher cap hit of 9.5 for more many seasons, but that's because Sid got a 12 year deal and Geno was maxed out at 8 years due to new rules.) And that's just the way it's gonna be unless a McDavid/MacKinnon etc.. step in here.

I just don't think Dubas was going to give him a contract either way. If we were in the thick of it we would have kept him and just let him walk.

There are two sides to each story but I am gathering Dubas didnt make much effort to get a deal done. I mean, he really didnt make much effort to do anything this season. We picked up some random waiver wire guys but never made any material changes to the roster to help improve.

I am gathering the agent is probably right, which will piss off guys like Crosby more. If the Pens offered him a good contract and he just wanted a mega pay day the players would respect it more. If they didnt even try to talk to him the entire season it would be pretty disrespectful given the success and career he has had with the team so far.

Ohhhh, so EK can skate? Oh boy.. THat's it? You gotta be kidding me right? I'm glad his skating ability is helping this team win. 1 guy can do it all and that's EK because he skate..Oh Boy????? You "fans" are lost man. It only makes the 8 goals all season meaningful that he skate and score 8 goals at 10 a year. WHooopie

Dubas should give him a raise next season also because he has skate..Then they'll be forced to trade crosby because EK and his ability to skate..What a effinn joke.

I’ll never get back the time it took to read this… yet I'm hoping in the future to see your detailed breakdown of CHEF Carter’s year with a lot more dangling participles, please.

I can understand Dubas not wanting to sign Jake to a long term deal and I can understand Jake wanting nothing but a high $ deal. Guy's played on a $6M/year deal while average players made more than him in some cases. This is his last chance to cash out.

I think Dubas thought he'd be playing for Jake for what he did versus what he is going to do. I think 29/30 is the right age for a 4-5 year deal, but I'm sure Jake wanted 7-8. I more blame Dubas for fumbling this whole thing and not trading him sooner. You could've traded him in the summer and used those assets to put a better team together

Still one of my favorite players to watch. There was even a part of me that saw him as the next captain once Sid retired.
