Could there be a scenario where Karlsson goes to Ottawa for Jakob Chychrun? They have $13M in cap space next yr.

Sure if you throw in Crosby

So, you think they will be better next season? I feel like they should finish outside a top 10 pick this season and hand it to San Jose. It was my understanding that next year has a deeper draft, I could be wrong there though. It's really is hard for me to say which scenario is better, especially when I don't have a strong grasp on each draft and the prospects available to be drafted.

There's also the fact Dubas is going to try another swing at things. He knows he missed and struck out this season, has pretty much admitted it. He will take another swing for next season...and perhaps they are better....perhaps they're not.

Did Karlsson touch you inappropriately or something? Its like you're just lurking around a Pens blog comment section ready to come out and diss Ek any time he's mentioned. You have a complex with Erik Karlsson, seems really unhealthy.

I like EK.. as a 5M 2nd pair dman..take him on my team in that role anytime. Anyone who thinks another team would actually give up assets to get him and his 10M 3yr remaining contract is delusional. He will be a HOF player someday based on his offensive stats. You think he is worth 10M and think other teams would want him is your opinion. My opinion differs plain and simple.

Nope...has never been my opinion of this season. In fact I said he's playing like a 7/8 mill defenseman (last season a 12 million one) and that a lot of teams would want him but don't have the cap space for it. You even just said you'd take him at lesser cap hit haha...60 point dman tend to get north of 5 mill by the way.

Why though, do you feel the need to keep coming in here with your comments and disses of Ek? Its really weird at this point.

It's hard to say but we know if Sid is staying they are gonna try again. So basically what I'm saying is this is a known non playoff year so tank it out. Next year could be as well but you never know.

Delusional? Really? Wouldn't that be, you know a different opinion on EK? We have no idea what other organizations think, some GMs might very well take him at 10mil. I personally would keep EK and move Geno. I thought we should have at least dangled Geno to Calgary when they were selling off Gaudreau and Tkachuk.

Ek is a +6 at 5v5 this season.
Letang is a +5 at 5v5 this season.

Not a single 3rd pair defensemen was positive.

EK is having arguably his best defensive season of his career. He is being asked to play more defensively. Sullivan has a leash put on him whereas in San Jose he was allowed to run free. Despite the brand new system, playing more defensively and non-productive PP he's on pace for around 60 points (at times its been 70, after this low to no scoring past two weeks its on pace for 56)...something that's only been done by 3 other D-men for the Pens the last 25 years. So, your logic is off here. They have a bottom 6 not being scored on near as much and added a defenseman that is out producing most of the bottom 6 combined last season (didnt look into this, just feels like it haha).

The sh!t PP is the main reason why this season went to crap....and yes, he is totally a part of that haha.

I would rather have this:

Jake Guentzel: age:29-TBD by another team.

games goals assists point +/- pims
503 219 247 466 53 224

Then this:

Erik Karlsson: age:33-...(10) mil for the next 3 years

games goals assists points +/- pims
980 186 618 804 -96 454

Sid would be happy and on top of that Guenstzel is a proven goal scorer and alot of teams apparently wanted him. Apparently not the penguins nor the some of the pittsburgh fans.

That 10 Million for the next few years on 1 player and a dmen is killing the bottom 6. EK has 8 goals this season 8 goals. We just lost a goal scoring machine that plays with sid on the top line for a 2nd line pairing dmen with 8 goals at 10 mil FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS.. Why can't you understand this?

Ek isnt the reason Jake isnt still with the Pens though....

I wanted to keep Jake by the way. I was in the keep Jake camp.

Thats crazy....is Graves lumped in with that at all? I know he was put on 3rd pair for stints in the season. He is the one that by all means they should try and dump...for anything at all haha, not Ek.

That could all easily change next year. How many times have we seen us get a defensmen that wasn't quite himself the first year then took off in year 2. It's been happening since Gonchar.

Edit: I also believe we got Jakes best years, he's a smaller player and has been taking lots of hits. I believe he's wearing down and giving him a big contract is not the right thing to do.

Oh and you've mentioned the PP isn't good because of injuries and that's killing this team. Your right, somewhat but why isn't EK scoring goals on the PP at 10 mil a year? What has he done to help this team? 8 goals? 10 mil man...I can't stress this enough. Where is this PP phenom dmen that dubas picked up?

I would understand this IF the core was younger and not regressing. As far as jake taking hits crosby, malkin and letang have all taken hits and personal problems also, more so letang. Jake averaged over 20 goals the past 7 seasons. If this is the case then dubas should've traded every player on this team.

Except they are all bigger and better than Jake. I'll leave Letang out of the generational talent argument but if you're comparing Jake to Sid and Geno, there isn't one. I love Jake, he was great for us and I'm not knocking him, but he just was not, is not Sid or Geno. Now I definitely would have packaged Geno for Tkachuk and this isn't a hindsight thing because I wanted to do it when Tkachuk became available.

We have plenty to choose from.

I would love to have been a fly on the wall when Dubas made this decision. Remember Sullivan sat Puljujarvi last game not Gruden.

This is where I think you are wrong. Trading for Karlson was bad. Yes, he has played ok this season on a team not really doing too much, but was it worth giving up other things to aquire him. A first round pick (which is going to be fairly high) and a 2nd rounder in 2025 with a very deep talent pool. They should have not went for him, realized their era was past and moved on from a few players. Yeah I get Crosby, to an extent, but I'd have no worries in trading away Malkin, Letang and maybe even Rust. A rebuild is coming and why not get a head start on it when you can garner better value over the next few years to rebuild this team. Yes, I'm a Flyers fan, but look at what Briere did this year. He made the team but by adding the right role players, trading away bad contracts and locker room distractions and made a huge jum from last year. They have 9 picks in the first 2 rounds this year and next year.

I'd trade Letang, Malkin, Rust, Karlson and Petterson this offeason and start rebuilding now

They both should be called up. Glad Gruden is finally down. He’s proven he can tread water and be a 13th forward. Congrats to him but that’s useless to us right now. Need to see if these other guys are nhl talents

What are your thoughts on tanking it out and taking this years pick?
- 668710

It'd be nice to play some of the younger guys just to see what they have. We know what we have with Acciari, Neito, Carter, etc. Although I'm not sure if they have any callups left, I thought I saw on twitter somewhere they've used all their transactions but I'm not sure. I wouldn't want to necessarily tank, but this season is all but over -- if possible, they should be using it to evaluate AHL players to see what comes from next year.
