Bunting is ok but not young enough for me to really value as a piece coming back. Hopefully taking bunting is viewed as a cap dump and the assets attached will be the better for it - Victoro311
Agreed. His contract is not really that 'friendly'. Esp if we retain 50% on guentzel, which I hope we do.
If this was a contract swap to make money work, I hope we are getting at least a pick and on of their top 3 prospects in return. |

Happy for Bingo. Solid contributor to this board and his team has been sorely lacking a goal scorer for years. Tough to get any better than G in that regard.
Enjoy Jake, my guy. |

If true, I am glad. Bingo should be happy. Guentzel will be a solid add for the Canes and will immediately give them an offensive upgrade. I am so glad he went to Carolina and not the Rags. I dont.think.I could stomach seeing Jake in a NYR uniform. Thanks for everything Jake! |

I mean he’s a rental. Could still end up a Ranger.
But agree. (frank) the rags |

Putting a finisher like Jake on Carolina seems a nice fit. Best of luck to him.
Bunting was one of those guys I was kind of interested in for UFA but thought he was getting overpaid. A bit of a pest, but I always worry if those types stay hungry. I think he's been slightly disappointing but interested to see what Bingo says.
Probably replaces Smith on the depth chart and at least a chance the team is a little grittier. Also 6 ppg sounds welcome, would be second here. Hopefully some net front presence?
Don't think he'd be the main piece, but something for now. If they trade Jake and Smith, lots of openings at LW. |

I assume Jack Drury will be part of the deal since his name was linked to us on a few rumor sites |

Out of the Metro, I'd actually be rooting for Carolina anyway. Feel like they've had some bad luck over the years in the playoffs. Hoping they break through this season. |

So Bunting and apparently neither of their top two prospects according to Twitter. This has all the makings of a bomb.
Or maybe it’s for Smith? Please? |

Not seeing anything about what prospects are involved either way by anyone reputable. |

Imagine how hilarious that would be. Everyone assumes its Jake for Bunting+ and its really just Smith for Bunting
I was 50/50 this was going to be a good trade, that has been lowered to 15%. I smell a stinker coming up

Fire Dubas? - PittsPens
Regardless of how this TDL goes I do expect we’ll revisit whether or not Dubas should hire a GM and stick to hockey ops this offseason. It’s become a hot take around here to still be happy with the Karlson trade, which I am, but pretty much all of his fringe moves bombed and it’s turned into death by a thousand papercuts. We need a guy who’s really good at player eval running things on the ground and executing Dubas’ high level vision. |

I agree with this. But given how hamstrung he was coming in, hard to judge him this early on. The market dictates the price on rentals, so hard to kill him if the return is underwhelming. If we are here again next year with just as many question marks on the roster, then I’ll start feeling like we made a mistake hiring him. |

At first I wanted to say “let’s see where this trade goes” but I agree with this take. Two qualified people is better than 1. |

Ned was a big win, and Eller was a solid signing.
It's really only Graves that was a disaster, and it's a huge one so far. Smith has been disappointing, but his numbers aren't that bad and that 2nd line in general has been underperforming no matter who was on it.
The waiver claims have been hit or miss (Ludvig, Harkins, etc), but that's expected there. |

I’m happy Guentzel was leaving anyway and Bunting isn’t a huge Vag like Guentzel is. I mean Dubas is nothing and Sullivan still sucks but at least a little bit of the get along gang is gone. |

Dubas’ history of questionable player evals around the edges of the roster stretch back to Toronto. I don’t think this is just him being hamstrung, I think player eval just isn’t his strong suit. |
