I think I was in drug school. I had no idea we’ve missed the playoffs eight years in a row

Yeah, seeing how they hoisted a cup less less than 7 years ago....

But But the penguins have "core 4"...They should be in it every year according to you and someother people on here? But keep hoping though? I won't.

I'm just going to tell myself the Pens are going to resign Jake in FA after he has a chance to go out into the market. Unless he really lights it up in the playoffs, I think they could get him back.

Rust and Rak were the mistakes. One of those guys should have been let go. Good players, but not as good as Jake.

For what it’s worth, Marshall responded to a tweet the other day saying that there’s no chance Jake is back after he’s traded. Now, he’s not a beat guy so that could just be a safe assumption on his part but I feel like he’s right

I realize that, but I'm going to delude myself until it happens lol. Since the cap is going up substantially, someone will over-pay.

The Pens are not a contender, we all know that. But if they had average PP production and take away about 3-5 games where simply imploded and gave away leads, they would be in a playoff spot now. Not sure why some think they are 100% done, they are close to being at least competitive...

What I just got sent to me pretty much the first thing in 10 days about Jake and some of it’s probably known out there already… “We are out as of now. Sounds like Canes Rangers final 2. Asked for (#2 prospect, #3 prospect, younger 3rd line nhl player and a 2nd) which is crazy to me but someone might pay it”
Obviously had to retract the 3 names in there but gives a good idea of price currently.

That ask is quite a haul!

I think w/ the Rangers I want Lafreniere. Canes Jack Drury, Seth Jarvis, ,and Necas would be people I would ask about. I would want more from the Canes and Rangers since they are in the Division to be honest so my price would be higher.

Vancouver: I wanted Hoglander (as everyone already knew). Flordia: Lundell would be my main ask, but idk if I feel like Florida is a good fit with picks and prospects (don't know enough about their prospects tbh).

Edmonton: I spent the most of my time thinking in my head we were making a Jake deal with Edmonton. I felt us getting Kane back in a deal made sense for both sides. It allowed Edmonton to try to resign Jake and add some cap space. It also added a physical net front type that Pens have been lacking. My thoughts were Kane, Broberg, and and a few picks for Jake and Ned.

You can have Jack Drury.

Jarvis and Necas are non starters for a rental.

This feels really similar to free agency where Dubas wasted all his time and resources on EK instead of actually improving the team.

Laf is not available. Top 6 roster player. It will be a 1st, Othmann and probably Kakko at best.

GP will not be available. At worst for the pens its 1st, sykora, and jones

I am quite surprised we did not trade Smith or have any smaller trades yet. It seems all focused on Jake

Rangers aren't trading Laf ..scratch them off your list. Guentzel is a rental . A 1st and a decent prospect is about it.

No possible way they trade Kakko or Laf for a rental. Plus Guentzel is LW they need a RW. Can get Buchnevich or Vatrano who are RWs for much less

Agreed on Laf. He will not be traded regardless. kakko most likely would have to be a player with term. Maybe Tuch if hes avail. GP is the only prospect I am not moving. They did turn down Henrique/Vatrano for Kakko and a 1st. Maybe Vatrano solo costs way less

He has a value as if thats what he is, its a perfect 3rd line big defensive player. The issue is that he is still looked at as a 2OA. Gotta remove that

Lol yup. Either he gets a poop return or doesn’t move him and either over pays him in the off season or loses him for nada.

For those wanting Hoglander, just know that’s basically like asking to get another Tyler Kennedy

Would you do Jake Guentzel for 2010 Tyler Kennedy? He the missing piece?

The Pens are currently spending about $10.5M on the bottom 6 including Carter. If you take an extra $3M from Carter and give it to Jake, you are basically counting on a bottom 6 of entirely sub $1M players. *not taking into account any salary cap increase.

How are the Pens going to have a better bottom 6 that way? We need a real 3rd line, even if that means we have a less high end top line. The makeup of the players matters, but we don't even have a Hagelin for the bottom 6 right now. Let alone a Kessel or Bonino.
