It might look like vegas is out of the running for guentzel with the mantha trade with the capitals.
- jb55

Nah they still have 3.45m to spend. Could fit in Jake at 50% if they really wanted to but they’d be right at the cap.

They could also send an expiring contract back.

I think he was insinuating Mantha heading to Pittsburgh.

You should probably do some research before you post something like this. Geno’s production is more in line with low end 1st line forwards and top end 2Cs. There aren’t many 2Cs with better raw production than Geno and that’s with an albatross of a PP this season.
- j.boyd919

Yes man. Its crazy how good of a 5 on 5 season the older guys are having in contrast to that PP hahaha. If the PP was at least middle of the pack Geno would be on pace for point per game or more. Sid would be on pace for 100+. Ek would be on pace for 75/80+

But, the PP isn’t.
If I was really good I’d make it to the NHL and score goals and beat people up for 2-4 million dollars a year. But I’m not.

One has to wonder why smith would not want to play with crosby, malkin, karlsson and letang? WIth the fab 4 the pens have wouldn't you think any hockey player would be thrilled to play with sid and company? I don't believe smith was the only player to want to leave pittsburgh either? Why else would he sign here? Might it be the fab 4 or coach sullivan that smith wants out?

Have you been to Pittsburgh? If you liked living in Vegas, Pitt is not for you. It’s a decent city to raise a family with poopty weather. It’s a suburban lifestyle. He was traded not signed as well.

Dubas Friday afternoon: we moved gutz for a 1st and prospect playing in the sub Sahara league. We really couldn’t get what we saw as fair value for anything else. We like our roster and with some more experience it will all come together. We can shore our core up with players you never heard of that did t work out anywhere else.
- sammy87

Are you sure that was dubas? Cause that sounds more like neal huntingtons BS...

Mainly Yager. Doesnt seem like Pickering is rated that highly.
- SuperHenderson13

Pickering is fine but he's not really a needle mover. Big kid, skates okay. Hasn't really gotten any better the past two years.

Timo Meier got a decent haul last year, and. I think Guentzel is a better overall player than him. The 1st and prospect should be a given. But getting anything more than that might be based on conditional picks

I am from pittsburgh or just outside of pittsburgh. Smith has been in the league for 12 or 13 years now. I would imagine he was in pittbsburgh at least once in that time and observed something when he stepped off the bus at the Civic, mellon arena or PPG arena and said..Hmmm the weather is mightly cooled here in pittsburgh in the winter time, i'm not going to move here from vegas.

My fault: I was saying that vegas picked up mantha in a deal with the capitals and not sure vegas has the funds for jake? I just thought mantha was the player vegas wanted instead of guentzel. You never know with vegas though?

I've read online that that they were possibly targeting 2 forwards at the deadline. Not sure they have the assets we want, but I also think the actual return for Guentzel is going to be underwhelming to most around here.

They're going to trade Jake for a young player I've never heard of and a pick I don't care about.

I've never understood why people think we can't criticize our top players when they play bad.

I think it's valid cause we know they can do better and when they're not giving 100%. ie Sid's corpse play last night.

They're held to a higher standard cause they're better players, get most of the ice time and get paid more. I'm glad Geno had a good game last night, doesn't erase the fact he's was pretty off in Feb.

Celebrate them when they play well and call em out when they don't. The fake outrage on Twitter is annoying.

Oh man, the change winds.. They're coming.... For me it's both exciting and sad... What unfolds this week could piss us off or please us greatly... Perhaps a mixed bag of both....

I can almost guarantee that, short of getting Connor McDavid back in return, a large portion of the fanbase will be upset with the return.

I have wanted to get Mantha for a long time. He isn't super physical, but he throws the body around and fights occasionally. He is one of the guys we target in the offseason.

He has had a bunch of injury issues over the past several years. Just hasn't been able to consistently put it together because of that. I really want to have both Geno and Sid rolling with a big winger with some finishing ability like Mantha.

I've set my bar extremely low. I want us to finish low enough that we have a gamblers chance at the top pick. Trading Jake helps with that.

We will get a 1st and a near NHL prospect for Jake minimum. I'll be fine with that. But you are right, unless it is 2 1sts and an nhl ready prospect fans will complain.

I'm more emotionally tied to what other moves we can make that set us up for a successful offseason and a chance to re-envision the roster to make a run next year.

They don't get paid extra for the playoffs, Carter isn't waiving even if somebody wants him.

Wouldn't the better thing to do be finish outside a top 10 pick this season in a weaker draft and give pick to the Sharks?
