This Chris Johnston rumor of Van wanting to trade Lindholm to Boston to make room for Jake is wild and hilarious.

From Chris Johnston on X

With the #canucks  believed to be among those pursuing Jake Guentzel, word is they've had discussions about potentially flipping Elias Lindholm to the #bruins as part of the machinations to make it happen.

Nothing concrete in place at this time. Still lots of moving parts.

They DESPERATELY want him. Hopefully our package reflects the desperation.

Ha, I know! I don’t know if I can remember a scenario like this.

Rutherford is a great GM to have interest in one of your players. He wears it as a badge of pride that he doesn’t fleece teams. Him being involved will maximize any bidding war that’s taking place since he’ll give a very fair deal.

He’s in record saying he doesn’t like to fleece people. Instead, he tries to be very fair so that he can build relationships for future trades.

At his age, though, who gives a (frank) about relationships haha

If the best offer value wise is something like 2 1st round picks from Edmonton - I'd be tempted to take that deal. Knowing how many GMs overvalue 1st round picks, I think you could potentially flip one or both for a RFA or good young player at the draft.

During the draft Jesse Marshall was obsessed with Axel Sandin Pellikka. If the Red Wings go after Guentzel wonder if we can get him back.

DK saying that one reason Dubas has tomorrow set for a trade is so that if no one meets his asking price for Jake, he can take another swing at trying to sign him long term.

Sound. There's still a scenario where maximizing Jake's value is resigning him. We can't let him walk for nothing under any circumstances, but take a lackluster return ends any idea of giving Crosby something close to a winner before he retires.

This makes sense, and prudent. I agree with the strategy.

I wonder who we would want from Boston if Vancouver is acquiring prospects and picks to help land Jake.

When I look at the January 2024 prospect ranking, amazingly Pittsburgh isnt 32.

Oilers - #29
Bruins - #28
Pittsburgh - #27
Vegas - #25
Florida - #24
Vancouver - #16
Carolina - #12

I listed the organizations that we've been linked to. Obviously the ideal trading partner for Jake would be a Vancouver or Carolina. Not sure how NHL-ready some of these prospects are, but there's at least some decent options.

New Jersey is getting hot for a goalie and it sounds like Markstrom might not be available... Dubas needs to get on the phone with Fitzgerald and sell him on Jarry.
- MacPatty

Would you Trade Jarry for Timo Meier?

Renegotiation with Jake sounds silly. Why would Jake want to talk to the Penguins until well after the deadline? See how much they blow up the team before considering the money. Even if they can match anyone and he wants to play with Crosby. He wants to win Cups too.

As was pointed out here, I'm confident that Rutherford is putting an offer on the table that's attractive and he wants it done in advance. JR is not one to wait until the last minute and bank his hopes on landing someone, only to have the price jacked up further or lose out to a competitior.

Blomqvist, Pickering and Yeager are highly regarded, I suppose.

I’m just excited for Malkin-Olivier tonight as Malkin transitions into his enforcer role to stay relevant.

Mantha to Vegas. Not sure if that takes them out of the Jake race or even a secondary option like Smith.

Thanks Henderson for looking that up for us! I hope after this deadline we move up in the prospect rankings. I think after the deal Vegas just made idk if they are still in the race. I think Vancouver and us are just finalizing a deal

You got it here! Mentioned it yesterday, Simon Edvinsson Or Axel Sandin Pellikka with 1 other top 6 prospect and it’s a win!
