Just a thought on the PP. Do they have too much talent?

In other words, are they trying to be too fancy for their own good (kinda like Dream Theater) instead of just running a conventional power play and just crashing the net (kinda like Motorhead)? I'm not saying put your 4th liners out, but maybe take what you're given as opposed to trying to make the perfect play.

Dream Theater are sick...John Petrucci is a god amongst men. However, their music doesn't get me off like some of Motorheads stuff....Ace of Spades still gets my blood pumping, still sounds fresh. Technically DT is outstanding but very rarely gets me in the feels at all.

Now, to your comments about the Pens PP....yes...its too technical (perfect play) and needs more emotion/urgency (crash bang slam wham)....however, it can be both technical and emotional (urgent) all at once, as well.

It's a good analogy though. Sometimes you just need 3 powerchords in 4/4 but DT is going to give you sweeps in 15/16 anyway.

33 games left boys and girls...66 possible standings points still on the line...they are 12th in the East in the middle of February.....the exact same place they were in February of 2009 and 2016....now, do I think this season will end with a cup as well? no, I do not haha...however....they have shown me they are capable of high quality hockey...even in a lot of their loses this season...

...As someone who wasn't really confident they would make the playoffs before this season started or at any time during it, thinking it was a toss up, that it could go either way, I haven't given up on this regular season, yet...its a tall hill to climb but a climbable one, for sure.

- MattStrat

Before the season.... I didn't think they were real contenders, but I thought they'd be a tough out in the playoffs. Now... I think they're done. The math is getting tough. Every game is going to be a playoff game and they've shown no ability to string a bunch of wins together this season.

Rumor has it that Malkin is dinged up. Should be interesting to see if he practices today.

See, I love that. 33 games out and every single one is super important now. Personally, I lean more to the side of them not making it in but I'm not totally giving up on them, yet.

Gonna be really tough with the status quo.

My hope for the rest of the year is that Sid can continue his PPG streak and keep moving up the legends list.

That, and Dubas doesn't make and more GRAVE mistakes at the TDL.

So, put Lemmy's corpse in front of the net?

At least it would start chain smoking and maybe make the goalie cough.

Dream Theater are absolutely some of the most talented individual musicians in the world no doubt. And I'm sure that you can throw the most technical thing in the world at them and they'll nail it. If you're a musician and appreciate their talent, that's great.

But just write a song. A good song. You don't need to show off with the most technically difficulty thing in the world every 30 seconds, just write an enjoyable song. Pull Me Under is about the only thing I like by them because they threw all that stuff out the window and just wrote a song.

If they do end up trading Jake, which I still think is a terrible idea, would you accept Berggren and a 1st from Detroit? Detroit is one the bubble and is probably itching to get back in.

Detroit doesn't have the cap space to to extend / resign Guentzel even if they make that trade (about 2.7 million last I checked). Yzerman isn't going to part with Berggren AND a 1st... that will not happen, especially for a rental they can't afford to re-sign. The Wings have some other very good prospects ready to make the jump to Detroit next season (Edvinsson, Danielson, Mazur and possibly Kasper).

Would love to have Guentzel in Detroit... but the Wings need younger players as they're still in a rebuild. Berggren is a talented young prospect who's good enough to be in Detroit right now... they just don't have a roster spot for him.

They had a spot for him to start and sent him down, and all he's done since is tear apart the AHL. There's gotta be a reason they won't recall him.

It's not a good idea to trade Jake. A team struggling to score trading their top scoring winger can't reasonably expect to retool better. Unfortunately it is getting to that point though.where they have to do it if Jake won't sign.

My best guess is because the team is winning right now and Yzerman / LaLonde don't want to mess with the line chemistry when they're in a playoff / wildcard spot. Berggren would be sitting on the bench if he gets called up and it's better for him to be playing top minutes in Grand Rapids than just sitting. I do get what you're saying though. Another thing to consider is that Berggren is the first player called up if there is an injury in Detroit... so he provides some insurance.

Berggren will be a starter in Detroit next season without question (if he's not traded). Yzerman will most likely retool again at the end of this season and drop some of the older UFA's he signed last season. The Yzerplan keeps on rolling...

Totally agree....but some just dont have the feels in their music. Technical stuff is what gets them off even though it doesn't appeal to most.

Gimme Lafreniere, Cuylle and a 1st OR Perreault for Guentzel 50% retained and I’ll send the paperwork to the league tonight!
- pens4life-66

I'm still upset they didn't offer sheet Lafreniere....could have had him for a 2nd round pick likely.

Trade rust and give gutz more $$?

Rust is 31…not sure what he’d return but he’s a solid F. Better to unload now and get more pieces to rebuild.

Trade Smith and give the $$ to Jake.

Carter is coming off the books next year. Give Jake his money and make other moves in the off-season as needed. Not that hard

Sounds good, but what if Jake wants to go somewhere with a better chance to compete? Because that's the real concern, not finding a way to pay him.
