I'm ok with beating the Leaf's fans with sticks and such.

Honestly dude as someone who played the game at a high level if anyone in here should understand it should be you. It's a total disrespect to the game from top to bottom what that Sens player did and got exactly what he deserved actually it probably should have been worse after the crosscheck with another sound throttling. You need to be better man wise the fack up there is a code in Hockey and needs to be respected.

Oh, I don’t have an issue with Rielly going after him, I would’ve done it too, but I wouldn’t have cross checked him in the head. That’s my point. My gloves would’ve been in the third row I threw them so hard and I’d be feeding that Grieg kid knuckle sandwiches.

I played a lot of good hockey, I never cross checked anyone in the face, and I was never cross checked or slashed in the face.

I am seeing a few posts "Bring MacEwen Home". I have to say I am a bit curious. I love Corey Perry but I would like to see a good bout with ZM and CP or even Evander Kane or Nurse.

The Leafs are the most arrogant franchise in all of hockey. If that was another team I don't see Grieg pulling off a shot like that.

I think it was back in the 05-06 season when Gary instituted an automatic game suspension(miss the next game) when fighting in the last 5 minutes of game or OT.
Back then, people tried saying that it would lead to more stick work. Here we are almost 20 years later and we see cross-checks to the head and way to many spearing incidents.

Now that other teams see how much it bothers them, I hope the empty net clapper becomes a thing they have to learn to deal with.

Exactly. You learn early sticking someone in the face is not ok, it's not ok in this instance.

It would be interesting to see this backed up with some numbers before and after that rule. Back then I remember players like McSorley and others trying to take heads off with their stick and the police being involved occasionally. Those incidents don't seem to have increased to me... on the contrary, they seem way fewer.

For those interested Willander is playing in the Beanpot on TSN 3 right now.

Wow, this is such a bad hockey game, Flyer/Yotes, so many turnovers and so scrambled. Bloated would be losing his mind.

I hear his game has struggled lately. Problems producing on the top pair, been demoted. Play has been a bit suspect...

I am not going to go back and have a look, but if you don't think chickenpoop moves like cross-checking someone in the face, spearing someone in the balls, spitting on someone, or stepping on someone's ankle or leg haven't increased since those rule changes, I don't know what to say.

Because of very few fights in the last 5 minutes of a game? Think that over. All these types of incidents would have to be in the final 5 minutes of a game to back up that assumption. Have they been? Very rarely it seems.

I'm being honest. I would like to know if you are right or not. It just doesnt seem to be the case to me. I could be wrong...

I may have forgot to add the instigator rule, which came in at the same time. Also, I am not sure either, but there appears to be more of these incidents since those rules came in, just on Saturday alone, there was the Reilly incident and someone trying to castrate Pacioretty.it has become a candy-ass league with a bunch of candy-ass fans that get upset if 2 players drop the gloves.

I played with a couple of the Greig boys back in Nanton Ab and I will tell you why Reilly went after him with a cross check and not drop the mitts. Those boys are all tough farm boys and can all throw them, he knew exactly what he was doing when he shot the puck his mistake was not keeping his head on a swivel. He was looking for someone to fight him and not the cross check, this isn’t going to go away anytime soon in fact first time they play each other again there’s going to be some fireworks for sure. I think when you take that shot you know something is coming so he should have been ready. The rest I don’t care for, Reilly is a little chippy but would never be considered tough. What’s more concerning is that that’s the guy who responded!

That backchecker is really digging hard to catch him in case he misses.

He's saving his energy to charge at him with a cross check to the face.

It's a stupid play at the end of a rivalry game between two teams that don't like each other. I saw worse in the 80's in the playoffs in some of those Battle of Alberta series with players taking swings at each other at the end of the games with their sticks at their heads. It's only that now because of concussions and CTE being such a huge deal that it's being magnified and not glossed over by the media.

Not to mention players back then were a hell of a lot tougher and didn't turtle as much or wait for someone to have their back and took care of their own business unless it was someone laying a hit on the star.
