Bought my dad tickets to the jagr dinner for his birthday. Hoping to get my jagr rookie card (gift from my dad) signed at the event. Have any of yall been to anything like the event coming up?

I’d take a prime Matt Cooke or Raffi Torres running rampant on a pussified league over Goddard though.

He's 25 and he's replacing Puustinen who is 24...

But at least he's better at hockey.

- Tojo.

Technically true, Puustinen wasn't getting sent back to Pittsburgh though. Hinastroza and Zohorna are ahead of him. Then when Nieto returns Puljujarvi will force Sullivan to bench a greybeard.

Puustinen is fifth on the team in points per sixty. Third on the team in GF%, second if we don't count White who has only played five games. PP is clipping around 20% when he's on the ice. I guess that says more about the team than anything else.

Hinostroza and Z were in the minors. Puustinen was on the Pens third line. He was definitely ahead of them.

Puustinen started hot, but one assist in 11 games in December. He wasn't earning his spot anymore.

Taylor Haase did a big breakdown of Puustinen on the PP. Good article, but the TLDR is the metrics for PP when he was on it were among the worst on the team, he only had one PP point himself, and all the PP goals they scored with him on came against two teams ranked in the 30s on the PK.

Puustinen has to hope either the Pens go into rebuild or he's traded to a team that does in order to get the PP and top six time he needs to have a chance to be successful.

Hino and Z played themselves out of Pittsburgh. I think the next call up is Poulin who is currently playing well.

Agree. I think he should have been up while Smith was out, but their top 9 looks set for now and I'd rather he play more in the minors while he can.

I think he is an upgrade over Nieto/Harkins and this roster needs someone to come in and give the bottom 6 a boost. It will also be nice to use the bottom 6 more often and not force the top 6 to carry a ridiculous workload down the stretch.

Power play WAR seems too high hahah... and EV defense too low. What makes up the EV defense WAR? I guess entry denial rate, possession entry prevention and hits for sure... But he's top of the line in exits, exit possession rate, D zone retrievals and very good in exit success rate.

Things I know for sure is even though the PP stinks with him on it he is on pace for 60 points mostly at even strength (crazy for a dman), his individual xGF%, HDSC% (highest on team) and CF% are all 55% or more.... And with him playing almost 1/2 (avg TOI is 24:26) a game, every game, the Pens have only allowed the 3rd least goals against in the league so far this season.

Back in the dark ages (1970’s) our second team was shooting lights out against the first string. Finally after about ten minutes of us beating the snot out of the first string, the ball rolled over to the coach. He grabbed it and hollered, “Why can’t you guys do this in the game?” One of us said “We can’t score from the bench, coach.”

That was the last time we saw the floor.

Puustinen was playing 15 minutes for the first seven games. The last fourteen he was getting seven.

What is the difference between Entry Denial Rate, Entry Chance Prevention, and Poss(Possession?) Entry Prevention? As far as the wording, they all seem to be the same, especially the first two.

This card is going to trigger Grinder. Maybe somebody will make cards like this for him with percentiles for cheap shots, dirty hits, intent to injure, etc.

I'll agree there's no real hatred anymore and that rivalries are only really carried on by fans nowadays. What the NHL failed to notice is that Americans, the people they keep trying to make hockey fans, like seeing men beat the piss out of each other. We like hard-hitting football and UFC. Trying to eliminate fighting seem counter-intuitive to marketing the game. Same with limiting the amount of inter-divisional games so that all teams get a home and away against every team, it eliminates that 8-game per season bitterness.

I'm not a fan of cheap shots and fighting for the sake of fighting, but agree that physicality and hatred are a shadow of what they were. I'll also agree that the skill of today's players are better than ever (generally speaking) but I wish there was a happy medium.

It’s just not that entertaining of a product at this point. Pens/flyers use to be can’t miss game.

We have an office in cgy few those guys played OHL and the Q….they all agree. They’ve tuned out the flames and oilers.

Saw a quick interview w torts and he summed up the league quite well.

Yeah. Acting as though semi controlled violence wasn’t a great thing was the dumbest thing the league ever did.
