I mean playing glorified pond hockey will only go so far.

But when the team was struggling to score, at some point you need to revert and let the horses run again.

At some point they’ll have to put it all together, but right now focus on the goals and hopefully the rest will follow.

The system they were playing was not working at all.

Kyle Okposo: "We've had conversations over the past few days that if we're going to go down, we're gonna go down playing the way that we know how to play."

Return of the fun, perhaps?

Accepting this season as a loss removes any pressure from this group. It's a losers mentality and exposes that pressure breaks this group...Adams reads this and thinks, lets add more rookies next year and they will handle the pressure and win.

They should have worried about this in TC not November or December. Sabres whole system should have been drawn around there speed. From Offense to Defense. There Speed should have been there biggest asset for Defense. Dump and forecheck, puck pressure throughout the Ozone to the Neutral Zone. Puck pressure in the Dzone to force turnovers to unleash your fast breaks. They only had to tweak 1 thing and that is use your Speed even more to cause Chaos. Injuries affected that but so did the compete and consistency of the Team.

Well when 2 of your Captains have done Nothing but Lose, how do you teach them to Win. Cause obviously you haven't figured it out for yourself. Losing breeds losing and its been the Sabres culture to long and the CAPTAINS have had a big hand it the culture. He might not be who he used to, but go get Stamkos, guy knows what it takes to Win.

Is the removal of:

Okposo
Girgs
E Johnson
Jost
Olo

and replaced by rookies enough to make the jump to a winning team?

Who will be the leaders next year?

Dahlin - C
Tuch - A
Cozens - A

Does that leadership group know what it takes to win? How much will they just carry over from the Okposo/Girgs era?

Must say Okposo is potting some goals this season, great to see...on pace for 18-ish

I don't think so, you still need a Stamkos or someone who can pass on knowledge and help them take the next steps to becoming a winning Hockey Team.

This is false.

OLine has been maybe our strongest unit this year. No games missed.

Well, based on age, Tuch and Tage are now old enough to be considered veterans and they should be counted upon to step it up and take a leadership role.
To me Dahlin and Cozens are the heartbeat of the team and should also have a place in that group.
So, yes, those are the guys.

That said, as was part of yesterday's posts, they do need to bring in a couple guys with SC winning pedigree and a couple take no prisoner attitude guys. There is plenty of room on 3rd Pairing as well as L3 and L4.

As I said yesterday...time to trade some projects and players to acquire them.

Best part, but last game was the 1st they really put anything together and Dallas's top 2 DT where hurt. I don't think they were 12,000 good IMO.

The one curious point I took from Adams on the radio last night was his comments on options with Mitts, he finished by saying is he the right guy that fits long term or something like that.

Adams ammo for upgrades IMO:

Mitts, Krebs, Rosen, Joker, UPL and the 24' 1st pick

I would trade Samuelsson in the right deal, Novikov has been streaky with his play. But I think he becomes a better version of Samuelsson, skating is already better.

a

My pessimistic take was that Mitts is trade bait. No extension prior to RFA and no discussion on a new one, per Adams. Adams and his answer sounded very much like a deflection and more of a "if he is here, he is here." while acknowledging Bulldog's compliments in the strengths of his game.

Oddly dismissive from my listen.
