He was a leader, and fwiw Girgensons stated he was always the leader once he came here.

yeah see just because you're a good leader doesn't mean your team is going to be good

I think we both can understand that.

But we're here nitpicking the existence and purpose of Kyle Okposo after losing 7-2 against a team with a negative 5v5 scoring rate and shooting 12 times against a bad goalie.

Respectfully, the focus needs to be broadened beyond this mundane topic of a washed up captain.

- TheSabresTaco

When the organization makes that washed up captain the headline signing of the offseason it shows the incompetence of the front office.

When the coach plays that washed up captain 20+ minutes a game while losing like every season Kyle has been here, it's worth discussing.

Maybe for a few seasons at most, not the entirety of multiple contracts, 8 years now. Not one good season, yet now he is a good leader.

Probably 3-4 weeks away from a full lineup. Tage and Quinn give the team a vastly different look. You play like Saturday night, doesn't mean Richard.

(frank)ing 12 shots bro.

Name the 7 higher reasons.

Kyle is essentially a 2nd line player, plays both the pk and the pp, is the captain of a team that comes out flat every game, of a team that folds it in whenever the pressure is turned up, weak, slow, and has a history of failure with the organization.

He is the embodiment of Pegula sports. He is the guy Adams loves, he is the guy Granato loves. If the players adore him as you say, its more evidence this is a group of losers.

If the GM was fearless and wants to win like he says, he should put this up everywhere:

Seeing anyone comfortable or complacent makes his job that much easier.

Instead they will hold hands with the bubble machine cranked up to the high setting listening to Barney's #1 hit "I Love you"

He is a great leader, I can confidently tell you that. What he isn't, though, is effective on the ice.

He has Andrew Ference'd.

- TheSabresTaco

I believe the issue isn't whether KO is a leader, more appropriately it is the lack of trust in The Core's leadership abilities.

Why bringing back, then relying so heavily on him in terms of TOI is a good idea for an obviously spent players speaks volumes to me about the void (small "v" here, not The Void) in effective leadership from Tage, Tuch, Cozens & Dahlin. While Cozens and Dhlin are relatively young in age, they have played hundreds of NHL games each and Tage and Tuch are old enough with hundreds of games.

Well said, anyone that wants to win, would not look to Okposo for guidance.

the better argument is, are his leadership skills worth more than the detriment he is on the ice. That's something I'd love to listen to.

(Checks 2023-2024 record and standings):
Ahh, no...very apparent. Very few games have been won result8ng from his on-ice play...1 by my recollection.

This is why it’s baffling that they didn’t just offer him an off ice position. Could have kept his “leadership” skills around and got him the fark off the ice.

I’m hearing a rumor that the Sabres are going to be extra nice to each other today, they have been nice and it’s been so great but they need to be professionally nice, like Canadian people are.

when will this ineptitude truly matter to them. when does the patience run out.

Only took 0-15 to poopcan the worst coach of all time.

Talent's here. Make a few tweeks, find a coach who can coach. Wish Don could send Ellis back to the development staff and take his place.

I think we can all agree that the plague on this team isn't just the fact that Kyle is here. It's way, way deeper.

A good team can easily survive a Kyle. And an EJ.

- TheSabresTaco

The fact that they brough back the 4th line and signing EJ and Clifton took up spots to improve the team, combined they are 4 of the worst 4 players on the team. A better GM could have read the signals as there were very strong signs
- Clifton and EJ being jettisoned, Okposo absolutely spent the last 1/3 (1/2?) Of the season.
-Jost Is a nuthin burger that could have easily been upgraded.
