Is the above attempted code for shutdown defenseman?
- kingcong39

It's effort towards a lateral move, Adams would say he has that in Joker already and not make the trade.

Short term I like Tanev for the playoff run. Replacing EJ for next year makes a lot of sense to me.

Yes to trading for Andersson, and then figuring out the cap.

Time to stop (frank)ing around and being paranoid that the vision board plan might need to be adjusted, or gulp, accelerated.

- kingcong39

I highly doubt Calgary moves him, but if they do decide to he is a player you go and get. He fits the puzzle perfectly with his skating. You have time to worry about the cap later. Sabres have the assets to really make Calgary think about it to. And when contract time comes and he still fits nicely next to Dahlin or Power hopefully Samuelsson has been good and somewhat Healthy. You could probably get a haul for Samuelsson in 2 years with that Contract.

Considering they have virtually the same cap hit, and one of the two actually plays most of the games?
- kingcong39

best ability is availability i suppose

A couple of stats nuggets from Natural Stat Trick:

Goals For % Leaders - Samuelsson 61%, Peterka 58%, Power 57%, Mittelstadt 56%, Jokiharju 54%, Dahlin 52%, Skinner 52%

Expected Goals For % Leaders - Greenway 57%, Tage, Power and Peterka at 55%, Mittelstadt 54%, Dahlin 51%

- kingcong39

Power is sneaky good and improving his physical game as well. I see him developing into a much more stable defensive game than Dahlin

Dahlin's defensive game has been excellent the past 2 seasons.

Trade scenarios floating around are a bit flawed. The only players Adams is willing to part with are unwanted by the rest of the league. He is terrified to let any prospects go and the core is locked in.
I’m not sure anything happens on this team except maybe 2 UFA get replaced with AHL players, and/or maybe one or two UFA added.
It will be similar to this year with a bit more upside potential with the young guys

We have to look at the Cap down the Road. But it really depends on how the Sabres continue to build there Team. They have the ability to roll multiple ELC'S for the next 3 years easily. You can allocate more money to one part of your team than another depending on how you put that team together.

its very easy to think this is true but we dont know yet. if we're competitive near the deadline this year and he sits on his hands again then its time for pitchforks.

this is the first season that theres a clear logjam AND theyre supposed to be winning i think

organizational philosophy can be to draft and develop but it will get to a point where you're doing a disservice to players by keeping them here when theres no room for them, which they're also trying to avoid

They weren't supposed to be winning last season when they were in a playoff spot briefly before the trade deadline...?

im like 800% sure they were far better than they wanted to be last season and didn't stray from their pre-set plan

we can complain about that as well, but thats a different issue

i think this is the first season internally they expected to compete

Far better then they wanted to be? What does that even mean?

An inability to deviate from a pre-set plan is indicative of a failing with management.

Big Murr would have picked up more than 4 points in 17 games down the stretch

he would have put the team on his shoulders

side note bjork had double greenways point total after the deadline last season
