Is every prospect fighting for 1 spot?

When does/did Rochester's camp start? They might want guys down there for that and have a plethora of forwards to send there. Defense, Johnson is the only real question mark so keep him up until they have to send him down

Starts Monday
Edit: First practice was today at 11, made a mistake on Monday

I won't take that leap until Friday, if he's in and it looks like an opening night lineup.

A misfit line tonight just sends confused signals.

- Lunaion

To me it says he's not a place holder, he's getting a real look up and down the lineup to see what makes the most sense for them/him.

I think so

Skinner-Tage-Okposo
Girgensons-Cozens-Peterka
Greenway-Mitts-Tuch
??-Krebs-Olofsson
Jost

- Hank Balling

if the team is healthy, that question mark goes to quinn in a few months

They got outplayed by Zach Benson to be fair.

I think Kulich and Rosen have bright futures, but they didn’t move the needle this preseason. Which is just fine with where they are development wise.

- Swedish_Jesus

did they get outplayed by girgens, jost, krebs, peterka?

Davies outplayed Power, typical Sabres not taking the best guy.

why does draft status matter? should take the best 23 guys based on a 5 game sample in a non competitive environment. Show the fans they are serious about winning!

His line also isn't there and tonight's line doesn't look like anything that stays together. Like I said, I think this what you'd do if you're sending him down as well. We'll learn a lot more Friday....and their practice lines tomorrow, if these guys don't get the day off.

Idk, the centre he's playing with may very well be the one he plays with in the regular season.

When do they announce the final round of cuts, next week?

Roster deadline is Monday at 5.

Don't think Cozens + Mitts are middle 6 C's? I consider this the misfit line tonight, still curious to see it.

Pretty sure his spot is much higher than just above those two lol.

Idk why its such a big deal that the young players didnt beat out girgensons and friends. Is that even a role that you'd want them to play, probably not right?

I also don't know what your issue with peterka is but like thats clearly an NHL player and all kulich and rosen showed was that they didn't get wrecked in pre season action. Is that the bar for making the team?

Aren't they also in line to be the first call ups too?

I think it's more that I can't picture Krebs being 4C again with Mittelstadt being a viable top six wing option (and quinn out).

I'm with you, but with Mitts at C tonight, their plans at C seem clear.

If I'm going to rant about anything in the lineup right now, it's Cozens + VO.

Peterka had his growing pains last year and Donnie was talking about how important this off-season was for him with the WC and training. They like JJ and for Kulich or Rosen to take that spot was going to require them to play at a godly level. Peterka's spot is set.

I also don't think they want this team to be full of rookies again, generally those teams struggle. Last year they threw Peterka, Quinn, and Power in and each had ups and downs that you get with rookies. This year they want to make the playoffs and leave those guys in the minors to develop and go through those ups and downs in the AHL. If they get hot they'll come up and if they cool they'll go back down. Standard NHL practice

I still wouldn't look too much into a preseason roster. When we see the opening night roster or the full team practice lines then we can start to worry.

I am still holding out hope that with Benson's ascension they pull the trigger on a VO trade for anything at all.

So they want next year's team full of rookies? This is a strange team to figure out.

why have 50 million high end prospects and cap space if your going to weaponize it to get stillman, greenway, and erik johnson then and watch the value of the prospects drop 10 percent ea year

doubt it

between joker, girgens, okposo, jost, casey, olofsson, krebs

of those 7, I would not be shocked if 5 or 6 are brought back

Nobody talking about what a huge game tonight is for UPL. He is fighting for his life right now. If he stinks again, I think they role with 3 goalies because they don't want to give up on UPL and Comrie is insurance in case UPL really does stink.

If they role with 3 goalies, i think Bryson is toast. We already know who the starting 6 are. Throw in Stillman as your #7.

Oloffson is also playing for his life right now too. It's no secret that he's not part of the Sabres future and the only reason he is still here is because of Quinn's injury. He is an insurance policy like Comrie. Olofsson has to show up when playing with Cozens on line 2. If he doesn't show something, does that open up a spot for Biro assuming he plays great again? Biro will probably get claimed if he goes on waivers, Olo not. Or perhaps Savoie slots into Quinn's spot after a rehab stint in Rochester?

I think tonight has huge ramifications for Benson, UPL, Olo and Bryson (even though he's not playing). RJ is headed for Rochester with 1st call up on D.
