(shrug) I dare say that most franchises are run fairly poorly, and that is why the ones that are well-run are few and far between. I think we all assume that because these people are billionaires that they must be smart.

Terry's undoubtedly smart. He is an engineer, after all. He also doesn't know what the fück he's doing with the Sabres, and he got lucky with the Bills. The two are not mutually exclusive. Would you let an orthopedic surgeon operate on your brain?

I don't know why they didn't originally hire a guy - arrogance? As time went on I think we can all agree that they wouldn't hire a guy because of mistrust.

Never thought about it, but it would correlate with the fact that we've had 7 teams win 5 or more Stanley Cups and 12 that never have. Some is longevity, but it does seem like some franchises just repeatedly manhandle bad ones.
