Hearing NYR and Alexis Lafreniere closing in on a two-year extension in the $2.3M area.

Yeah, Hanifin is a good player, but his defense isn't exactly fitting. Who do you pair him with ?
- Buff36

Don't know but I have saying it for months now that they have talked with the Flames regarding him.

Lol why

For Hanifin he is

Krebs has more to give. He was held down being on the 4th line. Heโ€™s not a grinder but got valuable playing minutes.

Adams and granato rather have him play then sit in the press box

Makes me appreciate the tag contract even more

I get why Matthewโ€™s is getting paid that. So no questions there. A lot of dough for him

I know I give Adams poop for the Summer of No Excuses but goddamn, that Tage contract is positively ridiculous compared to Matthews

Is Matthews better? Of course.

Is he $6m better? Not even close.

They did what they had to do. Couldn't let him walk at any cost

I dont think helps Toronto get any better though

Auston Matthews = $13.25 million AAV

Tage Thompson + Dylan Cozens = $14.24 million AAV

It sure is something isn't it

I see alot of positivity from leafs fans on Twitter. I assume its simply about him not leaving. Of course there are the delusional ones talking about him winning multiple cups before this contract is up too.

Someone should show them how no team has won the cup with a player making more than 10mill on the cap

Not really sure this holds much water. How long ago was the first ever over 10 mil contract signed?

The hawks won with two 10 mil guys when (I think) no one had a contract over 10 mil.

Not saying it was a great signing. But not sure this hot take is really worth much heat

The Hawks last won the cup in 2015, which is the season before Kane and Toews began making $10.5m per each.

RFA, of course.

This time, he was going to be a UFA.

What do you think Tage was signing for if he had waited until after this past season?

Much more than $7M per would've been my guess.

Overall, Adams hit the timing right, which means every season you are getting more value out of a contract then the AAV is a wasted season if you don't win the cup, and especially if you don't even make the playoffs.

Its not a hot take its a stat. Whether it will continue to be one will be determined. I assume when the cap goes up it might change

He is a year away from it. Its semantics at this point. Matthews has now signed two contracts that are not team friendly

I dont think its a good contract untill the cap goes up significantly, by that time he will be a year away from another extension
