I think if this were true they wouldnt (correctly or incorrectly) add Jost, Greenway and Clifton.

If the goal is the season after, then its a dev year and you dont want any of this on your team, nor would ownership want to have spent over 75 mil.

I definitely believe they want to make "those" moves, they haven't been able to, which is a separate issue.

- Michael Ghofrani

how is it a develop year if there is no spot on the roster for savoie, rosen, rouusek and kulich?
assuming they are good enough to make it

yea that was my point. If theyre punting they dont spend the money and make it harder for those guys to move up the lineup.

This looked like a punt year 2 seasons ago. Ton of deals expiring and big wave of prospects ready to hit after this season. Doesn't seem like the plan ever changed.

They claimed Jost due to their total lack of a 4th line Center last year.

The coach pounded the table for Greenway, and with the team looking much better then expected, they needed to make some move. Even so, his salary is only $3M.

Clifton was a safe, at least effective bottom pairing Dman who also only makes $3M.

They were selling development going into last season until the team started to and continued to look like a real team.

They were selling hope at that point, and you can't make zero deadline moves and no offseason moves while selling hope.

They are still a bottom 4 payroll in the league.

Depends on what they offer him.

If it is anything over $3M, they will have performance bonuses carryover into next season.

Can't imagine they have any interest in that.

Brind'Amour jr signed with the Charlotte checkers.

GOT DANGIT

The vibes per 60 opportunity squandered here is ridiculous

Did you also know that Patrick Kane had hip surgery?!?

Clearly he would sign for 7 years at 70 million and ruin this great franchise by not playing defense, ugh I can’t believe this franchise would undo the last 13 years of success by signing captain peg leg but he will get a lifelong contract and let in 3.23 goals per game because his hips are shot.

I get what you're saying but on the priority list I'm still putting scoring winger below G and 2RD. He's a top-3 American-born player and a local legend in the twilight of his career. It's fun. Is it what they need?

They'd be over the cap this season, so that's not going to happen.

They'll make it happen if they want to give him a contract

I'm talking about the $7M AAV for 3 seasons idea you tossed out earlier.

Probably a procedural issue with signing a guy that injured prior to a surgery

Teams are gonna want to see what they are buying

- Boss34

That’s might be true. I get that. But if teams 100% thought showtime was coming back.

He would be signed by now.

Nicklas Backstrom came back from hip surgery. (Same one as kane)

21 points in 39. A -25

Kane gives you that. Are you happy?

Yea they wouldnt do all of this if they were trying to punt this year. I accept the argument that its not enough or not good, but I cant get to "theyre punting this year" because they made moves in the interest of short term gains.

If im not trying till 24-25, theres no reason to do any of this. Much easier to sell hope through call ups than it is to do what they did.

Not when it follows an 80 point season with another one.

They had to try and play the middle after how the team looked halfway through last season.

And following that theyve decided not to try again? Again, no issue with the suggestion that its not good enough, but the idea that theyre punting the season is extremely wild.

If he really wanted him, wouldn't you leave a little more cap available?

I still don't get what Johnson is doing here with Joker still on the team.

If I’m understanding you, you believe they don’t have the ability to make the necessary trades vs restricted?

Idk if it’s so much playing the middle.

I do believe they want to make the playoffs this year, but they don’t want to do it at the expense of future years.

If the right deal comes along that helps the team today and throughout the next several seasons I don’t think they hesitate to make the deal.
