My best-case scenario is that he finishes with a .908 over 55 games. He would be a firm Calder candidate and then it's up to UPL to navigate the other +/- 30 games.

The only difference between Levi being called a phenom and Miller not is the advent of social media.
- kingcong39

And Miller played 150 games in the American hockey league but UPL probably sucks and we have no alternative so...

right but the stat isnt a result of social media, its a result of his performance. its possible miller had a good one too.
- Michael Ghofrani

Advanced stats were born out of many people starting sites to then post their data on social media, usually to try and get jobs in the NHL out of it.

I think Levi gives you half the games.

They are banking on the other two giving you the other half.

Comrie had a 20 game sample size in Winnipeg that earned him the contract here, we better hope he can replicate that this season.

Maybe Miller didnā€™t need to play 150 games in the AHL ?

Ah, so we're back to Adams is a combination of full of poop and wet behind the ears for publicly claiming a GM asked him for more than another team was asked to give up.

Personally, I think Adams is overly proud of trying, and is way too ready to pack up his puck and go home the minute something might not work out.

Jim corsi was literally a coach when he came up with corsi? Im sure others have developed different metrics while working with teams.

Even if i grant your premise cause it is true to an extent, who cares? It doesnt mean levi's value is strictly from social media. It means we have a stat now that illuminates how good he really was beyond the basic box score.

It is more than a little troubling that their 'plan' in goal hinges on a wish and a hope mixed with a dash of goalies, who can figure them out anyway.

It certainly didn't hurt. He's a top-5 American goaltender of all-time. Maybe top-2

I'm as bullish as anyone on Levi - I think he might be really good immediately. But this is a highly unorthodox path for a goalie to take and it's a major risk considering what is behind him in net (nothing)

How many people give a poop about that stat or others like it without them being plastered all over Twitter?

Stripes posted the list of goalies with stats like Levi.

NHL success is hit or miss from that group.

the last 65 games was due to a lockout (63) in 04-05 and injury rehab in 05-06 (2 games)

he was crying in the locker room in 03-04 after a loss in front of reporters

so my guess is if no lockout, he would have been with the big club a year earlier

Well off the top of my head, the ones in the league probably care? Idk what the argument is anymore lol.

My thing is he's a bigger "deal" than miller was at the time cause his performance was at least as good as Millers with a significantly worse team in front of him, and thats not nothing.

That being said, you won't get me to say that giving him 50+ starts right away is a good idea, it's insane for a whole other set of reasons. Phenom or not.

Can say the same for 23 other NHL teams.

There are 8 goalies in this league that matter and the rest all depend on circumstance and hopefully getting hot at the right time.

Adin Hill went from saving nearly 5 goals below expected in San Jose last year to going on a heater in the playoffs and winning a cup.

Jordan Binnigton went from ECHL goaltender to cup winner, and is now an overpaid disaster.

Especially compared with their normal process with prospects.

I agree when Vanek said the best way to support superstar rookies is by bringing in quality veterans.

They (frank)ed up big time by not doing that for Dahlin.

Luckily for Power, Dahlin was here for his rookie year, and the team still claimed they wanted a better support partner for Power.

They are doing the exact opposite for Levi.

It is good that we agree that they didn't do enough at forward or defense to help with actual defense, to support their goaltenders for the upcoming season.

aside from cozens and krebs

I do not see much as far as 2 way forwards in our top 9

I brought him up earlier today or yesterday in talking about levi

as he is one of the lightest goalies in the league despite being a tad taller than levi

Oh man, I remember Guy Hebert. My top 5 American goalie list probably goes:

Quick (He has the cups)
Richter
Hellebuyck
Miller
Tim Thomas (burned bright like a supernova but was incredible for a short period)

The only proven defensive stalwarts are Tuch, Okposo, Girgensons, and Quinn (as long as his rookie season is a sign of things to come).

Mittelstadt and Jost werenā€™t great but didnā€™t hurt you necessarily either.

Krebs was great last year but was that a microcosm of playing with Girgensons and Okposo ? We may be finding that out shortly.

Skinner is who he is, and thatā€™s not going to change.

Can Cozens, Tage, Peterka improve defensively ? I think all three have it in them, but until it happens šŸ¤·šŸ»ā€ā™‚ļø

Another example of a goalie getting hot, getting a 3 year $15M deal, then flaming out.
