The Rangers are a below average hockey team carried to the playoffs by a top 2 goaltender in the world.

- Swedish_Jesus

rangers scored 277 goals

more than the canes or vegas

15 games over .500 on the road

7th in pp

9th in shootout %

15th - 20th would be average for these numbers

I shouldn’t have to repeat what you said but it needs to be emphasized Kane was on the worst team in the league most of the year and had almost no one with any kind of skillset to play with but still managed to put up the same numbers at 34 with a bum hip as Mitts did at 24 finally playing a full season.

Resigning Okposo and Girgensons is insane. Singing Pat Kane at no point would be a bad move.

But like, Kyle’s locker room presence or something.

Shesterkin finished second in goals saved above expected in the playoffs and played in 7 total games……

The Devils completely outclassed them.

Shesterkin was getting Hart consideration during the regular season because of the work he was doing carrying their defensive numbers.

They aren’t a playoff team without him, and this year might not even be a playoff team with him.

Such a shame that Helleybuck, Saros. Shesterkin, and Sorokin are going to be wasted away on mid teams this year

The Sabres are a guaranteed playoff team though. Which is not confusing.

What's easier or more common?

1) For a bad team to be saved by a good goaltender
2) For a good team to cover for a bad goaltender

Instances of both happen every year.

Georgiev couldn’t stop a beach ball in New York behind the same team Shesterkin puts up elite numbers on, goes to Colorado and puts up top half of the league goaltending metrics

He had one subpar year in NY... Shesterkin is just a much better goalie for that team.

The only year he finished with positive goals above expected was this year in Colorado.

Combined -17 GSAV from 2020-2022.

you are making no sense

you say the rangers are a below average team w/o the goalie

all the offensive numbers say otherwise

but the sabres would have been a playoff team with better goaltending

so were the sabres a below average team aside from goaltending, because you can't have it both ways even if it is the internet

kane sucks

playoff goaltending does not matter

what you do in the last 60 seconds of a 1 goal game means nothing compared to advanced stats

an ovi shot in the high danger zone is worth the same as a girgens shot in the high danger zone

olofsson scored more goals then eichel last season so he must have had a better season

the rangers had a 10.6 shooting percentage but was a below average team aside from the goalie

the sabres had an 11.0 shooting percentage but should have made the playoffs if not for the goalies

Defensively not so much, and they were buoyed by Shesterkin saving 28 goals above expected.

Where would the Sabres have finished in the standings if they allowed 30 less goals last season ?
