he paid off women, right?

the kids did not

he was under contract for the nfl right?

the kids were not

big difference

- navinrjohnson

are you upset that the kids are being punished for being sexual predators, or are you mad it took this long to expose them, or do you simply doubt the alleged victim and disbelieve her/them

or are you upset that the proof is not in front of you to read up on so you're assuming innocent until proven guilty

You weren't there, you do not know the facts.

This case was closed and only opened when funding was pressured during the #metoo movement where multiple women have falsely accused athletes/celebs.

This is not a criminal investigation, why are you so quick to call them predators? They were teenagers under the influence (both the boys and girls)

What is your desired outcome here based on the knowledge you have?

Do you have a link for an article that actually names the players, because the link you shared does not do that.

The link you shared is also over a year old.

- kingcong39

No, it names who they believe the culprits to be at the bottom based on their denial of comment. Essentially, they know it's 8 players total that were named in the original lawsuit as Joe Blow 1, Joe Blow 2 etc. From there they asked the 24 players on the roster, the names on that list declined to comment, their teams declined to comment and their agents either stated that incident cleared those accused, or they declined as well. In short, it's them + Formenton, but we won't get the verification for some time, if ever.

The initial case I believe was criminal but it was settled. Regardless, the case was settled with fat HC cash. The cash used to settle the case was even a dubious use of the funds. There's some information out there somewhere stating that it's essentially a general slush fund that's used on players' well being (?) but in this case was used to settle a criminal or civil case.

This is no longer about court, it's simple accountability.

- TheSabresTaco

Thanks for this, I thought I saw something that a settlement was reached but too tired to go digging.

Its realistic to think people are guilty upon accusation?

How'd that go with Matt Ariza? Howd that go with Derek rose?

Woman falsely accuse these athletes every year. And are never held accountable. These woman looking for a quick pay cheque would think twice if they put a couple of em behind bars and/or make them pay back lost salary.

Proof is in the Pudding. It's everywhere, damn I saw a story a guy went to jail for 5yrs for failing to pay child support. Finally got a Appeal heard and had a DNA test done. Wasn't even his kid. The women who got him arrested found out while he was in jail that it wasn't his kid and nothing happened to her. But that guy spent time in Jail until he could get a Appeal through.

Not really:

"Those allegations came to light after it was reported by media that Hockey Canada paid out an undisclosed settlement to the complainant after she sued the organization, the Canadian Hockey League, and the eight unnamed players. The woman was seeking $3.55 million."

Hockey Canada saw enough there to settle out of court.

Not to play spoiler here, but there are 99 rapes for every one of these that happen. Rape is probably the most underreported crime committed today and yet about 20% of women say they've at least had an attempted rape in their lives. As a man, the Matt Ariza stuff fires me up too, those women should pay, but let's not pretend this is the norm by any means.

I guess, doesn't seem too far of a jump is all. It isn't just that they denied to comment, their teams did (where others didn't) and their agents declined (the rest said their client wasn't involved). The point being, if they weren't involved, they certainly would've said so if for no other reason than contractual negotiations for the players moving forward.

‘Reasonable grounds’ exist that 2018 Hockey Canada sex assault occurred, police allege

https://globalnews.ca/new...l-assault-allegation-ito/

What I can tell you is, this was investigated three times and if these players names are released, there is little doubt they were active participants

You can't compare what happened to Matt Araiza to this or any other case.

But I can imagine there will be a lot more evidence for this case as opposed to the defendant's lawyer outing a suspect on (frank)ing twitter

Yes I know most sexual assaults go unreported. But we live in a world now where women can speak up without putting themselves in harms way.

For the women that falsely accuse cause there are no repercussions, its becoming more of a norm because they know they wont have to pay damages or get locked away. Needs to change. Realistically they should get whatever sentence the alleged suspect would have gotten if it were proven to be true.

You misunderstood. And while pontificating onward, consider I was 1 or 2 on this Board who stood up to call for restraint on condeming the Punt God before the facts were known.

You said "it is Guilty until proven innocent"
36 responded with "it is now"
You called his comment cynnical.
I stated that 36's comment is "Realistic"...
meaning that in today's world there is a rush to judgement in society in which accusations are viewed as truthful before all the facts come out...and the accused is demonized.

My desired outcome is that people are held directly responsible for their criminal action. As long as proof is found.

Good thing I'm not in a court room. We just wanted to know who was involved, so making obvious connections is still par for the course.

I can get by the sentiment about reprocussions, I just don't think it's the norm. I think 99% of the time, when a woman says she was gang raped, it's true. In a lot of cases in the past, these things got swept under the rug...as an example, we're just finding out a similar situation happened in 2003 by the CA team and it was on camera...
