1) Which player in the organization has the highest ceiling?

2) Which player on the roster do you see having a break out year?

3) Which player has the highest chance of disappointment this season?

IMO:

1 - Power
2 - Peterka
3 - Skinner

On top of the above, while I'm a fan of both Peterka and Quinn, neither need to be automatically placed into the top 6.

Nothing wrong with looking at bringing in one or even two more higher quality options for Cozens line, as that just further strengthens the forward core if players like Peterka and Quinn are on your third line.

For those that say what about Savoie, Kulich, Benson, Rosen, etc., my reply is who gives a poop?

Are we trying to build the best team possible, or the best hopes and dreams possible?

this year only, those guys are going to be gearing up to be ready for steady NHL time, but there's a high probability an acquisition like Tatar is significantly better for a year than any of the above mentioned.

It was between Skinner/Mitts/Levi for me - Skinners entire career has been one good season followed by a bad season - so I went with that.

Or they want to give Rousek a run.

Rousek believers, rejoice. I think you'll get your wish.

They'll sell the 'competition' line during camp. But we know the rest of them won't keep up with Luke.

I had that in mind as well but he broke that curse last year by going with a 60 point season (his prior career high-ish) to a new plateau of 80

thing for me is the gap between what he can be and what he's done is largest with Mittelstadt, hence my answer

next year, if he plays like the 2nd half, he's got 70 points.

if he plays like the 1st half, 30 points.

Where do you think he lands in the lineup, is he a lock to play in the top 6 or relegated back to the 3rd line?

Interesting choice at 1, what makes you think that? I like his tenacity, speed but, I think he lets emotions cloud him when the pressure gets turned up.

based on how he finished the season, he deserves first dibs next to Cozens.

How it actually works out is anyone's guess. They may want to spread his offense to the third line. anyone's guess when quinn returns. JJ to third line, rotate rousek and jost.

A lot of those surefire playoff teams from this past season also lost some juice while the non-playoff teams gained some.

The Sabres are a better team today than they were at this time last year. The Quinn injury stings, but opens up an opportunity for a Rousek/Kulich/Savoie/Rosen heck even a Benson to put their stamp on the roster.

The current construction of the roster also leads me to believe that Adams isn’t done making moves this offseason. We have 30 d-men on the roster right now.

Every day it’s the same thing on here, like the great Aaron Rodgers once spelled “R-E-L-A-X”

the window is open to compete for a cup

we are adding tokarski
old man johnson
a bottom pair d man from the bruins that was benched in the playoffs

that does not scream take that next step to compete for a cup when you have a zillion prospects

the stamp adams put on this team with a wealth of trade assets in the last 8 months is greenway, stillman, johnson and clifton

those are moves to try to move up to 8th, not win the whole damn thing

I see JJ as a third liner so I would want an upgrade on his spot, esp with the quinn injury

POTENTIAL SABRES TRADE CANDIDATES

THE ATHLETIC: Matthew Fairburn recently looked at several Buffalo Sabres who could become trade candidates. The club currently has 10 NHL defensemen and three goaltenders who could be ready to play this season. They also have several forward prospects who could be ready to join the lineup.

Winger Victor Olofsson is the most logical trade candidate given his one-dimensional play and that he was a healthy scratch during some key games down the stretch. His $4.75 million cap hit for this season makes him tough to move under a flattened cap. The offseason injury to Jack Quinn could force management to retain Olofsson until Quinn’s return.

The Sabres’ blueline depth could make Henri Jokiharju expendable. He does have some value which could make him a more realistic trade candidate before the start of the season. Ilya Lyubushkin could also be available but might not have as much value as Jokiharju.

They must also decide between goalies Eric Comrie and Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. Comrie could have some value around the league as a cheap backup. Other trade options include Jacob Bryson and Riley Stillman.

SPECTOR’S NOTE: One or two players on Fairburn’s list could be playing elsewhere when the Sabres open their season in October. Olofsson seemed to be a goner for sure before Quinn was sidelined. Perhaps they’ll evaluate the performance of their promising forwards to determine if they can part with him before the season begins.

When it comes to Comrie and Luukkonen I can’t see them parting with the latter. Still, it could come down to training camp and preseason performance.

as much as I want to get a Vet goalie in here to pair with Levi, I still am not ready to give up on UPL. I would really like to see what he can do with Levi pushing him and with a better Defense in front of him.

my fear is going all in on Levi for 2023-24

if he has to go down due to not being ready

close to 30 games from comrie and close to 50 from 6k is not a good look when the window should be open

What would you be willing to give up in a trade for Jefft Petry. He's far from a spring chicken and paid pretty handsomely, yet he's surfwce level stats indicate he is playing Top 4 minutes pretty effectively ... although I will say I haven't done a deep dive on him.

Rumors suggest he would be a trade chip in a Karlson trade. 2 years at $6.25m to partner with Power seems ideal timeline wise.

I think JJ can pop to a 50-55 point forward this year. Good enough for 2nd line production. I'm sure he'll bounce in the middle 6, which is whatever.
