If they settle around $3.5mm that puts toronto ~11m over the cap. They can remain over the cap by 10 percent during training camp and preseason but must be cap compliant when their respective regular-season schedules begin next month.

The cap is $83.5 Million, which means they have to move Murray ++, that will cost them futures.

They should move Tavares or Marner if they are extending Justin Biebers friend.

At this point for the Sabres, if Murray is an option that also brings in futures - that is a deal that Adams dreams about and it doesn't ruffle the feathers of Levi (which for some reason matters).

Loosing Comrie for nothing if he gets claimed off waivers is moot at that point, so Adams needs to get rid of his summer chef.

Accidently flagged, I think the intangibles of bringing in Murray over those 2 in addition to the futures attached is the reason for the move. This also proves the organization is set on Levi.

This route would prove that Levi still needs to develop into a 1A, strengthening the Sabres weakness and expanding a rivals weakness - Adams would be a fool to turn that trade down.

But …… if the leafs offer a 1st + murray for futures just to take his contract. You do that.

Swapping out Samsonov for UPL would be a massive win. Cost of acquisition, age, ability, term, cap. Everything the Sabres (should) want.

Neither team will. But it would make all the sense in the world for Buffalo to accept.

I know they like Joseph Woll. If they did that trade, they could roll with those two and waive Murray for insurance.

Buying out Murray would save them $2.6 while trading Samsonov for UPL and waiving Murray would save them $3.8 in the hypothetical
