I actually think the following trade could work with Buffalo:

To BUF: Connor Hellebyuck

To WPG: Eric Comrie 13th OA pick

Jets could then sign Broissant as Comrie’s back-up.

After thinking about this trade some more, I am underwhelmed with the return.

We essentially got a second line right winger that has had challenges remaining healthy. We already have one of those.

We got a third line checking winger that is good defensively. He can also pot some points. This is something we don't have.

We got a 23 year old prospect that could be Sabastian Aho, but is more likely Jesse Pulujarvi. Could be the next Manalainen... So I think we already have that too.

We got a second round pick, which the Jets rarely hit on. Only Dylan Samberg has been able to get a regular role in the line-up after 11 drafts.

The only good thing I see about this trade is that we will not have to pay PLD that contract. Which in itself may be a good thing.

Chevy absolutely maximized the return on Dubois. I also don't believe that Dubios is worth $8.5 M per year. His best asset is drawing penalties and at his very best he might be a point-a-game player. He barely managed that playing with some top NHL wingers on the Jets. Just look at the cap room that trade created. A Wheeler buyout will create even more.

I say we now quickly trade Sheifele and maybe Heinola for Konecny and a swap of 1st round picks to Philly. ( 18th for 7th) .

I don’t understand the entire “Pionked” narrative. It’s not like trouba is winning Norris trophy’s let alone being nominated.

If this draft is a deep as “experts” are saying it is. We could end up with another major building block for the future. It will also require a premium to get, which in this case would be a Vezina nominated goaltender.

As this draft pans out I believe if the Jets are lucky enough they will draft Gabe Perreault at 18. He is the type of smart IQ player that Chevy loves. If Perreault goes before them 18th , then it's likely a Dman will be available, maybe if we're really lucky its Pellikka, but I bet he goes earlier.

Thats my take after the first 11 picks.

EDIT: Nashville steals Matthew Wood who should have gone in top 10. Arizona is run by a group of complete idiots. A 5 yr old could have picked better than them.

Edit 2) Could the Jets get Oliver Moore ?...although I like Pellikka better

Edit 3). I never imaging Barlow would be available at 18th. Once again , ty Arizona for your stupidity ! Love the pick !

So in the end Chevy goes for the Claude Giroux / Brian Trottier type player who brings extreme leadership abilities and energy along with his skill. I would have also been more happy if it was top 10 ranked Oliver Moore who is obviously the more skilled player and comes with both size and speed.

I think either of these players will make their respective teams very happy.

I love Yzerman's picks as well. Stole two players. A+ to Detroit. Arizona gets an F

Chicago also gets an A+ but luck played into most of it.

Man, lots of good picks left on board when Jets pick came. Colby Barlow comes with great credentials and is highly rated. So happy with pick - maybe the sniper for McGroarty, Lucius, etc.

Was disappointed that St.L got Stenberg, and Vegas got Edstrom but we can't pick them all.

All in all, not much action (zero trades) but much as I anticipated. They drag it out too long!

I think it was the fastest draft in the modern era from what a lot of the media was saying. Flew by

Hopefully see some trades today though

I think the Jets trade into Round 2 today

Can't see it happening but you would need some GM that likes to make "splashes" so yes, Buffalo and Ottawa would qualify. Toronto and Pitts too?

Would think if this happened it would be after July 1 - re-sign and trade.

Problem with Ottawa and Buffalo, can't see Helle or Scheif wanting to play there for 7-8 years.

- grahamzky

Buffalo has the deepest prospect pool in the league, i think Buffalo will be contending for the cup for next ten years. Ottawa is also building a team to compete for the cup. but i also dont think any team is giving Shief or Helle anything over 5 years tops!!! they will both be 31 when their next deals start

Yea, I like Ottawa and Buffalo and believe they would both be deeply interested in both Helle and Scheifele. And I think they both have the prospects to deal with Jets.

However I wonder if either Helle or Scheif would want to sign an extension with those teams? That might hinder long-term extension if so.

Throwing a 6milx8 offer sheet at Bouchard would only cost a 1st and 3rd, and gives you a top pair righty through his prime.

No balls.

I don't think that playing the offer sheet game is a good idea. It can bite you in the ass.

I don't mind playing that game with a Canadian rival, and bouchard is a good player. Cap strapped teams should be hunted down by the pack - this isn't rec hockey.
Definitely not Chevy or Chipmans style though - and pretty sure all they can offer is 7 years .

This is something the Jets should be doing more often. Playing by the same “rules” as other clubs is not going to create a winner here in Winnipeg. Jets have to start thinking outside the box to become competitive.

The player has to sign the offer sheet though - think Bouchard wants to play in Wpg or with McDavid?

Alternatively, our two Connor’s will be equal to the one he has already

no big issues with the draft, think it would've been cool to take the Winnipeg kid in the 3rd but oh well.

sad we couldn't even get a 2nd or 3rd for Stan!!

Now!! with the plethora of Forwards, we have coming up in the next 2-3 years, don't be handing out any long-term deals to old not very good guys this summer!!

also, who cares if we have to retain salary on Helle or Shief, if it means we get a good deal, do it all day, don't over think it, teams don't have cap space!!!

Have the same feeling on forwards - no long term deals to veterans. Might sign Namestnikov for 1-2 years to give us back-up at C while youngsters progress.

No huge expectations for FA frenzy, other than maybe Namestikov. Don't imagine the Jets will be on Dumba, Souchy or Klingberg?

Trades more of a possibility in future to fill holes. See the following markets: Hellebuyck - NJ, Car - possibly Buffalo and Ottawa; Scheifele - NYR, Bos, NYI, Car - Necas+? Maybe both to Carolina??

But don't expect much (anything) tomorrow!

I should have added to my last comment that I hope this is the day they but out captain Wheeler. About $5.5 more of cap room, and rid of a distraction now, although he's been a great warrior on the ice. But all good things come to an end!
