Read a report this morning confirming that Rocco Tullio owner of Oshawa Generals is part of the winning bid for the Sens. Andlauer owns OHL Bulldogs. Expect some names from the investors behind Ottawa Sports and Entertainment group (Ottawa 67's) when Jeff York's syndicate of 20 local investors is named. We also heard Patrick Roy's name (part owner of Quebec Ramparts) come up as being potentially engaged with the Sens. Love all the potential connections with junior hockey.

Was Tullio the owner of the Generals when DJ was their coach?

I like Debrincat's skill, but he doesn't scare me in the playoffs. Not at all. And if he eats up 8-8.5M of cap space of DET - excellent

Man, could you imagine if Matthew Tkachuk hit DeBrincat with the hit he his Eichel with. DeBrincat might not be able to play properly/to his full potential ever again

Did anybody see the Connor Brown comment where he said the best thing that happened for his career was when the Leafs traded him to the Sens. I wonder if he is telegraphing a message to Dorion for when he becomes a UFA in a couple of weeks?

I’d sign him 2.5x3 to play 3rd line with Pinto and Joseph

So.
Apparently Im a little late to the game on this. I saw and heard about Bell media turfing a bunch of people but I hadn't heard that Simpson and Versage were canned.

Bummer.

I didn't mind Simpson. My only beef with him is that he still thinks Jason Spezza demanded a trade and as an on air guy decided to light the public torches to help run him out of town. We never should have traded him and he never "demanded" a trade.

Versage. I liked for his chemistry with Jakubec. Crusty sports banter that worked. I will miss him. I hope they both land on their feet somewhere. Seems am sports radio and am in general is dying off. Some auto makers are considering not having am in their cars.

I have Serius both in the car and the sound system in the house. Serius 91 does a solid job and maintains a good balance in their coverage including all the Canadian teams. The broadcasts originate out of Toronto and they have several Ottawa boys on their roster. But, they still end each segment with a whimsical Leaf reflection.

AM radio is in a tough market trying to keep listeners and advertisers. I like hockey, politics, gospel and the blues. I get bored easily and often switch from one to the other.

Yzerman is not going to part with his #9 overall pick for Debincat. That ain't happening. I don't see him taking on 9 mil AAV to sign Debrincat either. Would have to be less than that. Yzerman is a pretty astute GM... he won't mess with that trade unless he gets exactly what he wants. I'm fine without Debrincat... too expensive and the Wings can't afford to give up the assets Ottawa will want (other than Zadina) at this point in the rebuild. Yzerman will have to get a really good deal for the trade to happen...

Garrioch reports Nashville is on AD's list, and for a lot of reasons that deal could work, provided the Preds are high on Debrincat - you have to imagine a new GM in Trotz might be looking to make a splash and Debrincat's the right age for their trajectory and they have the cap space to accommodate him. They have the draft picks, as well as Saros possibly available with Askarov in the wings, Tomasino, Kemell, L'Heureux, Schaefer, Burke, Evangelista, Matier - lots of solid pieces to put a package together. What would you want from the Preds, or what would you think to be a reasonable deal?

I think I might as well, Saros' numbers are really undeniable. I think Dorion would think what he paid for AD would be high alone for Saros and would try to add a Tomasino to the deal, but the rumoured deal for Saros to LA involved multiple first rounders. I'd push for PD to test the water there as it would be nice to get a promising winger back, but THW actually think Ottawa needs to add more pieces beyond AF to land Saros, and if that's the case (and it probably will be with NJ, Buffalo and LA sniffing around) I'd probably look to sign one of the promising UFAs instead.

I just don't see any deal between Ottawa and Detroit. Neither has what the other wants and they are in the same Division. Better they both move on to explore other options.

Yep... I agree. As much as I'd like to have Debrincat's offensive talent in our lineup, the cost is just too high. Wings can't afford to give up any young talent right now. What Yzerman does have for trading chips is second and third round draft picks in a deep draft. I'm sure he'll do some dealing since he has a ton of cap space and picks... will be interesting for sure. Wings should get a very solid pick at #9 overall. I doubt he'd trade the #17 pick overall either... he'd have to be getting a deal too good to pass up.

If Saros (Nashville) is truly available then I would move mountains to see what it would take to get him .... DeBrincat would be part. At $5 million, age 28 and 2 years left on the current deal it can make sense for Nashville to move Saros along. They have Askarov in the minors as the eventual successor but he may be a year or 2 away from competing. Nashville is probably retooling and are a few years away from competing which would put Saros into his 30's looking for a new deal north of $5 million and Askarov knocking on the door for playing time. Plus, Nashville has some contracts to clear off the books over the next few years in Duchene and Johansen (both are declining players on $8 million contracts). Now is the time for Nashville to deal ..... but only if Ottawa can find out if Saros would re-sign here, and if DeBrincat is open to re-signing in Nashville.

As somebody earlier mentioned .... dealing DeBrincat to Detroit only works if you can bring in a 3rd team to the deal .... I like ...
Ottawa: Hart, Konecny, Laughton .... as Philly tears it down to rebuild
Detroit: Debrincat
Philly: 17th overall pick from Detroit, a second round pick from Ottawa, ++

Ottawa could also toss in some sweeteners .... Sokolov, Lassi Thompson for example

Obviously the trade would have more to it overall .... but that would be the gist of it.

A+. This is the kind of three way that works. Everyone involved has to demonstrate to their fan base that they have done something that works well for them. I wonder if Winnipeg is able to figure out some of the magic needed for the Sens to acquire Dubois in a three way. It is a bit more under the radar but Schiefle has a lot of the size, speed and edge that would a strong fit on a second line for the Sens.

I love the young guys and rebuilds are fun. We can find a lot of happiness in year to year improvement. But, the Stanley Cup is won by veteran teams that go 4 lines deep with solid D and good goaltending.

I like Juuse Saros but he's TOO SHORT !!

He's one of the shortest goalies to ever play. How many short goalies have won stanley cups (and don't go back more than 20 years lol)

I agree he is too short. But at $5million, he is a pretty cheap top 10 goalie, salary wise.

Would prefer Vladar, who is tall. Or Swayman.

Would you do Debrincat for Swayman (signed 4 x5), Mike Reilly, and either a draft pick or Jakob Lauko/AJ Greer? I'd like Debrusk but I think we would have to take Taylor Halls bad contract instead of Mike Reilly.

Boston is not going to do that trade with Ottawa. Especially since we will be competing for a playoff spot. Plus, it is time to stop getting scraps from other teams (like Mike Reilly who played most games in Providence , AHL last season .... why are we taking and paying for a salary dump).
We deserve nice things here in Ottawa. Its time for Ottawa to start driving trades. If all we can get for Debrincat is a first in 2023 and a 2nd, then take it and walk away

I understand the point that for $5M getting a true #1 goalie is great, but how long will he be a #1 goalie?

I just listed when goalies have won cups above and it's not 30+ as much.

Top 13 Games Played (last year) - age entering last season

64 - Saros (27.5)
64 - Hellebuyck (29.5)
62 - Georgiev (26.5)
62 - Oettinger (24.5)
62 - Sorokin (27)
61 - Binnington (29)
60 - Vasilevskiy (28)
59 - Markstrom (32.5)
58 - Shesterkin (26.5)
57 - Kuemper (32)
56 - Husso (27.5)
55 - Hart (24)
53 - Gibson (29)

Looking at this list, I would easily lean towards Hart over Saros. Saros will be 30 before the 2025 playoffs
