If I had to compare him - Penguins Jordan Staal. Smart versatile second\third line center/winger can play in all situations. People poo poo about the contract. So...year one he's expected to dominate on a team that's tanking. Year one AND two he gets a revolving door of linemates and throughout his tenure he gets a coach who hates him and fans who think it was an overpay.

I think that is a reasonable expectation.

My issue with White is that he earned that contract largely playing along side Mark Stone. Shocker, it was Mark Stone making Colin White look better rather than the other way around. That along with some injuries, it's not hard to pile on him.

I think he can be an ok 3rd line centre after Norris, who is ideally a #2 to someone else in a year or two. Anyway you put it, on a cash strapped team, White will likely be a little overpaid for what he provides. Would love to see him take a jump and eat my crow but we've been waiting for that for a couple of seasons now.

Ya.
I don't think we are arguing here. Heck...wasn't Duchene on that line too? Sort of a Zach Hyman situation. I guess big picture he's expendable. I see everything from leaving him unprotected to throwing him in to every trade the fan base has Dorion making.

I sincerely hope Dorion makes NO deals. I was thinking, late in the season, maybe a play for Dougie Hamilton. Now I think we stick and grow what we got. We still aren't ready.

Ya. I was mulling up the idea to grab Hamilton over Jones (theoretically) when posting about that, but it might be a premature signing on a team at least 2 years away from being close to a contender in the East. Hard to say. Maybe he is a guy who can play well into his 30s? There are solidified right shot d-men if you are willing to pay the price.

Or perhaps at least consider a new team policy that douchebag moustaches can only be grown in the 2nd round of the playoffs.

There's many reasons I hate the leafs and Matthews in particular, but this is my favourite one.

Pretty crazy the draft lottery is, like, tomorrow. Crept up pretty quick.

The names put forward in the blog make some sense, my ideal fit would be Monahan. Anisimov coming off the cap allows us to absorb most of his salary and would be a great fill-in for Jimmy at C while he develops physically.

Do that and sign a D like Alec Martinez or Ryan Murray for 11M/2 years (5.5 AAV) this year to fill in until Jake Sanderson is ready and we'd look pretty solid..

To OTT: Sean Monahan, Josh Leivo's rights
To CAL: Chris Tierney, Logan Brown, Clark Bishop, 2021 2nd (SJS), rights to V Abramov

Makes the team next year look pretty solid:

Tkachuk-Norris-Batherson
Stutzle-Pinto-Brown
White-Monahan-Dadonov
Formenton-Paul-Watson

ex/call ups: Leivo, Amadio, Grieg

Chabot-Martinez/UFA
Zub-Brannstrom
Mete-Zaitsev

ex/call ups: JBD, Sanderson, J Brown

Murray
Gustavsson

I think you're being a little hard on Seth Jones here. He can be a very effective d-man with the right puck moving d-man. Seems quite possible a Chabot-Jones pairing could be very effective. We all know right hand shots are slim in the system. Depending on the cost, it is worth investigating as an option.

given the assets we'd have to give up, and the $$ on a new deal, i want someone who's much more than "effective"

i think we'd regret getting jones for years if PD pulls that deal

Exactly the type of young player who could use a "Fresh Start"

Chabot- Jones could be a powerhouse pair

He's heading to free agency, we wouldn't have to give up anything really, Just a contract which we not only have cap room for but would likely be paying someone else anyways.

he's not really young man....gonna be 27 when next season starts.

Sens have a good to great prospect pool but LACK SUPERSTAR TALENT.

Norris, Pinto is not enough down the middle - unless Stutzle moves there.

Right side D is also suspect. Bernard Docker looks good but not sold on Thomson.

Anyone else watching the WMC and seeing the chemistry between Henrique and Connor Brown?
