Trevor, I think Ottawa might need to embrace the idea of keeping EK until the trade deadline, get the benefit of having an elite D getting extra points up until then & get a premium rental return back for EK. Probably get a 1st, 2nd decent prospect & a couple of conditional picks. Call it a day as it seems trying to sign & trade EK for a much higher return is going to be pretty hard to do if key parties dont want to help make it work. If EK knows he may be in Ottawa until the TDL & other teams in the mix know that is also a pretty well the path, maybe you might see some more motivation from EK & other teams to get this trade & sign done. Maybe its time for Dorion to say fck it, tell teams the door is open to negotiate with him & wake him up when they get it figured out. Then focus on making a home run trade with Stone. |

And then if he gets injured again and sits for the remainder of the season he has 0 trade value and they lose him for nothing. Is that a risk they are willing to take on a guy who has a recent history of lower body injuries? |

This makes sense to me. It seems like all the deals are lowball right now, and if you look at the insanity that is given up every year for average deadline acquisitions, they could hit a picks/prospects home run.
Yes, I get the the options are limited it playoff teams if you wait. Yes, I get that those teams may have cap issues, further culling the herd; but honestly, is that any worse than what we’re hearing now?
Also, having a superstar definitely helps avoid finishing last when you don’t own your own pick.

Tatar brought first, second and third round picks. Some team that is having a great season will want to go for it.
Karlsson >>>> Tatar
Return will be very good

Why would Kucherov work out an extension with Ottawa. He can refuse to extend with ANYONE and if that nixes the deal then he stays in Tampa where I am guessing he would far rather be. - Aetherial
I agree, I only brought up the idea because it's interesting and if they could get both EK and Kuch on board, it makes sense for both teams. |

I don't think giving up the offense of Kucherov makes sense in a Karlsson acquisition. That is why I am hoping Tampa does it!

But the rumor was that Kuch was going to the Rangers in a three way deal anyways. So why not cut out the Rangers and just take Kuch for Karlsson. Assuming they would both accept extensions. |

Melnyk would not pay Karlsson. Why would we think he would pay Kucherov?

Only scenario where Sens fans are happy moving forward is if Melnyk sells. If it means that we have to see Karlsson go in order for Melnyk to sell, I'll take that trade-off sadly. - Trevor Shackles
Unless it's some type of tax dodge, I can't understand why a guy would risk ruining such a large investment, or, run it so badly. He obviously doesn't worry about the asset that is the team. |

This is exactly why they need a 3rd team.
BTW, they'll give away guys like Johnson for free before they'd trade Kucherov. |

Balance sheet (expenses vs cash flow) is a factor in the sale of any business. Phaneuf and Brossard are gone. Hoffman is gone. Ryan and Karlsson are close to being moved out. Burroughs has been bought out. Smith is on the market. The entire team has been wasted.
Melnyk is dead to the city of Ottawa. Dead!
There is nothing he can or will ever do that will enable him to function in any capacity that requires the support of the community. I assume what Melnyk has done serves his financial interest. But, I also assume he knew he was on his way out when he began the financial purge.

Sounds like he wants out & will take the team with him - to another city. |

Not sure there is anyway he can possibly do that. I have heard that Ottawa interests wanting to buy the team have quietly acquired parts Melnyk's substantial debt. Creditors, as they always do, will have a large say in the final outcome. |

Thats ridiculous to be afraid to play a star player because he might get injured. Jesus, then maybe EK should retire then. Maybe better not play Mcdavid the first 40 games, he might get injured & then what?
By taking that stand, teams that are in the mix now will know that with EK's salary next year, he will be able to fit many teams cap & be that piece to win a cup. He would be the ultimate rental that many more teams would be in the mix to compete to acquire him as such. They(Tampa, Dallas or Vegas) better get their crap together if they want EK long term. |

OK, Here is the plan Ottawa fans. Dump these money players.......get these promising prospects on the ice and drop the ticket prices to $20. Melnyk is happy. The rookies get a shot, and for us "the fans".......well it couldn't possibly be worse results than last season when we were paying top dollar for a ticket! |

The rumor is Karlsson turned down $11 Million for 8 years.
But then again the rumor yesterday was that he wants to resign in Ottawa. then today it's the Oilers or Rangers... Nothing seems to make sense lately lol |
