Tom Wilson 391 games, 35 goals (yes a whopping 35) and 104 points

Sam Reinhart 249 games, 65 goals and 140 points.

not that interesting of a take. 36 more points in 142 less games. If Tom Wilson gets more money that Sam Reinhart it would just further my point that there are dumb GMs in the NHL.

- Mentalorgasm5

Typical: right either way

Sam gets 30% more than Tom- your right
Sam and tom get near the same.- your right gms are dumb

Put your self in a win/ win

Bravo

if Tom Wilson wasn't on the roster for the Stanley Cup I guarantee you the capitals would still win the cup

Your idea that Tom Wilson affects the minds of all the stars and they can't play and that's the reason why they lost is kind of ridiculous

- gerbe75pts

Sorry, this line of thinking is completely wrong.
The evidence was played out ijn spades in the Tampa-Caps series.
ONE OF the primary reasons the Caps won is they took Kucherov completely out of the last 2-3 games of that series with tough, hard nosed play. Wilson was a key contributor, leader really with his dominant physical play, aided by Obi, Is his, etc. He simply disappeared, refusing to go to the boards and front of they next. Caps took away the Lightning's best player, pure and simple.

To think physical play is not impactful i s simply ridiculous.

This argument is boring, let’s go back to possible wingers for jack.

We covered Tampa yesterday, but what if karlsson goes to the stars? Who would we try to target from them?

I ageee with all of this.

I just don’t think we need that type of player right now. If we were about to be contending then I would say sure let’s get one and make a run.

For now though that roster spot is probably best used for some youth to learn.

Not to mention I think Sobotka has that type of an edge to him

I think we are contending for the 7th or 8th spot.
Why wouldn't we be?
I agree on sobotka, I'm just thinking the kids are going to be targeted.
3 x 3 with mekar and mitts is proof. And that's 2 teammates in camp

Wife and I flew out of Tampa Thur night...surprised my wifes parents for father-in-laws birthday at a party last night/early this am.

I am absolutely stunned by comments that physical play doesn't intimidate players.
Quite obviously it is a tactic employed by players individually, and teams as a strategy to get a skilled team off their games.
It plays out every April - June.

Are goons outdated, absolutely YES.
Is physical play irrelevant, not a strategy employed....couldnt be further from the truth.

I think the fact that you watch hockey and the playoffs could be a major point.

This team needs a winger for Jack, but also some more team toughness. Goons are a thing of the past.

Sam would not last in the nhl playoffs. He would be targeted thru out

Tough spot for S abres.
I applaud the Sabres for staying away from FA market for over-aged, past their prime, high cost players on the decline. FA for big name players largely does not work.
Investing wisely in tier 2 and 3 FA is very useful...JBotts did very, very well there. Im happy they didn't land JVR...too long of a contract for these guys.

They need to find out what they have from their in house talent first IMO, then make a hockey trade as necessary. I'm not sure who that is...but I'm sure JBotts has ideas...I don't think he is done, but it likely rolls into the season.

I don’t have time to read all comments, but, just in case nobody else mentioned, Tampa can’t trade 1st rd pick. It is a conditional pick as part of the McD/Miller trade with Rangers. Also, Rangers had a bad year for sure, but they where only 5th worst in east... not 3rd. lol
- junaka3

Nobody has presented evidence that conditional picks can or cannot be traded. I really wish someone would definitively find this out. What little information I was able to find seems to hint that you can trade them, but there would be additional conditions. Someone needs to tweet at Bob McKenzie or something

Agreed on the Sam being a target thing. I know I would target him big time...I would make it so uncomfortable for him around the net, he would eventually shy away.

The talk around Tampa going into the playoffs is while highly skilled, they were not tough enough for the long haul of the playoffs. They played team-tough against the Bruins successfully, but couldn't match the Caps when they amped it up in games 5, 6, 7. Caps literally ran over them.
People were either blind or not watching that series...it was so obvious.

I don’t think we come close to competing for 7-8 unless we get another top 6 wing.

Another right handed dman would go a long way too.

We will be better than last year, but I don’t think we sniff the playoffs.

Right now this team is not even close to breaking out of the bottom three..

Once they add some Talent for Jack maybe I'll think otherwise

But I think they're just going to go with this and then we're going to pick High next year and get Jack's winger

I respect your opinion

Maybe my fandom has us between 85-95 points.
In the hunt all season
We have completely overhauled this franchise.

Eichel
Mitts
Dahlin
Guhle
Hutton
Ullmark

Full year of
Erod
Wilson
McCabe
Bogo - not counting on it

Believe me, I want to be making a wild card run too.

But I’m trying hard not to get my hopes up, after the last two summers of convincing myself that this will be the year we are somewhat respectable, I’m trying lower hopes so I may be pleasantly surprised.

I think Hutton and Ullmark alone go a very long way to help the whole team. I expect some more confident sticking to the game plan this year. I think a lot of the time last year guys weren’t playing the style to try and protect the net since Lehner couldn’t.

I liked Maroon on Anaheim, but he isn't the type of player we're building our team towards (slow).

I'd be fine if we signed him to a 1 or 2 year deal for under 3 mil.

- chilliard77

I thought the same thing but lack of speed didn't stop them from taking a run at JVR
