Just guessing here, but feels liek Melnyk put the stop to this. He'd rather finish in last than have Karlsson get the last laugh. Dorion is a terrible GM, but even he can't work like that.

He wasn’t playing in the playoffs I know that. Only thought of it because Karlsson is RHD and they’d have no room for him, with G and Coburn.

I don’t think Coburn is hurting them so much with the cap, like it’s not imperative they give him up in a salary dump. But the Rangers could flip him at the deadline so it makes more sense for them. I guess TB could also

I have the same feeling. He would rather him suffer in Ottawa and try to trade him at the deadline or let him walk than send him to a contender now.

Coburn and Cally's contracts wouldn't be bad to take on being they're done in next season and the season after, respectively. Better be some damned good picks coming back, though.

I was the biggest Cally fan going, but I gotta say that it would be very awkward if he came back. There has to be some bad blood from all that posturing back n forth. I just don’t see NYR being one of the teams he’s ok with. 16 team list is reported I believe, I’d be surprised if he had NYR on that list

Couldn't agree more. Although it would be nice to have Cally retire in Ranger Blue, can't see the NYR on his approved list.

Maybe two ways to look at it, he’s from Rochester so it wouldn’t stun me to see Buffalo, NYR, NYI, Devils and maybe Boston on his list.

Or he’s 35 and put just teams he thinks has a shot at a cup on his list, not a lot of contenders with cap space and room in their bottom 6 for Callahan though.

Funny when discussing guys on the move how they want to go to a contender. Nobody ever looks at guys on a contender and think do they really want to leave and go to a loser?
