I’m not a Justin - and I don’t play one on TV - but I’ll arrogantly chime in:
If there are no short term moves that could make this team a Cup contender - anything more than a playoff-contender and probable first round out at best - then any moves should be made with longer-term (two years out plus) success in mind. - StLBravesFan
Bingo! I don’ think there are any short term moves that make them a Cup contender. The only way that happens is if the original “core” play like they did pre 2015 and thats not bloody likely. I think as fans we should be thrilled about the run they had from even 2009 to 2015 but if they don’t have a solid plan going forward it’s just going to take them a longer time to get back in the cup picture |

I also believe the Hawks aren't AS bad as fans think they are.
They lost 22 games by 1 goal
Quite a few OT losses, i also counted the games where the Hawks pulled the goalie.
Looking at CC stats last year, even without Nik and 1 top 4 dman
16-9-2 he was on course for his season avg of about 30+ wins, 18 ish losses and a handful of ties. If he's healthy which i hope he is, he plays between 55-60 games a year, so that's 60+ points, if Ward starts 25 games and lets say he continues to win at least 4 games over 500, 15-10? That'll put the Hawks around 90 points.
Will the core deteriorate even more? Actually i think they'll play better this year than last because all the kiddies will be playing hockey instead of thinking hockey
We'll see, but do believe this team is not as bad as people think although it all depends on CC being healthy or clean or whatever it is he's battling. |

I warned you all about playing nice on the boards here however I continued to be disappointed the lack of respect by some posters here.
It's HOCKEY and we can all have an opinion, and even having a spirited debate, all while being respectful at the same time. This is something I am teaching my 3 year old.

Just hit sure what most on this board want...a time machine?
The prospects are germinating at the NHL level and more in the farm.
The highest end elite talent isn't drafted because they didn't stay a bottom feeder for the next decade after being one.
The places they DID draft, they did pretty well, thought I saw Kelley's name written on the gallows list too.
They paid the core just as EACJ and every Cup win g team did to their core, to avoid players looking for a fresh start.
They had to make countless difficult decision.
Yet...we in general, here refuse to let the natural process continue, whether it is a Wings like fall to the middle or if it is the what the management company line of ...team these days can re-tool improve and return to challenge...
The one thing we see is a team that has always been willing to spend near the top.
You prefer the ownership take a higher grip other wallet and set lower limitations to what they GM can do?
You prefer they just scrape all the old pieces (but the one or two you refuse to sour on) and go for a chancer at the top five lottery slots for the next decade while you haven't found replacements for the defenseman and forwards in that core?
I know it is fan board and all can vent, I just am not sure that the comments like the season is over, and the Stan Bowman quotes serve ME a happy environment because, they are not telling me anything st all.
Each and every summer I SAVE the various posts of how this player is this, the situation is this, and it always cheers me up when so many of these rash sweeping evaluations posted suddenly vanish when the the season starts and the comments re hilariously so out in left field.
I really don't mind you opinions or discourage you from typing them, but sometimes, I guess It don't understand where it is taking you as a fan, you know?

Might be a good time for everyone to review the COC for the board.

AGREED.
Defenseman-wise, I think the 'Hawks organizationally are doing great. Somewhere in the plethora of draftings and free-agent signings, a new core top 4 will emerge. It will be a joy to watch develop!
It would be even better if it is done quickly enough to where the old core is able to enjoy more Cups as elder skatesmen. - 35Tony0
Yes, the Hawks pipeline is starting to get stronger especially on the blueline. Coincidentally, the top prospects and those who many would argue are untouchable as far as trades, are all RHD: Boqvist, Jokiharju, and Mitchell. Start with these 3 as a potential nucleus of the future backend then complement them with more defensively-minded partners. Maybe something like:
Carlsson - Boqvist
Gilbert - Jokiharju
Hillman - Mitchell
Can't forget about other D prospects like Beaudin and Krys with big offensive upside as well as some potential 3rd pair guys like Raddysh, Snuggerud, Tuulola, Shea, and Galvas.
This of course assumes no acquisitions from outside the team like trades and free agency. As others have mentioned, having a deep prospect pool on D allows trading from a place of strength to bolster other areas of need, like forward and particularly top 6. I'd argue Sikura and Wise are the only top-6 prospects. |

My daughter has the same physician — a kidney specialist — as the son of one of my best friends at work. When I recently mentioned this fact to the doctor during my daughter’s last exam, the physician — normally a very jovial and pleasant fellow — replies very curtly “I can’t comment on that.” Several weeks later my friend got the same response when he made a similar comment during his son’s visit.
I think professional athletes and their teams are is a bit of a grey area. I think they fall back on the “upper body”, “lower body” mentality to deal with injuries when it is apparent a player was injured during the course of a game or practice. To disclose any type of long-term injury suffered outside the scope of employment or substance abuse or mental health or disease is a line they aren’t allowed to cross. If the player agrees to disclosure, then and only then could the team disclose it. - Spec41971
Not only cuz I am a huge fan, but I am going to give CC a pass on this and believe it is medical, to which, while we want to know, we cannot learn about it untill CC says so.
On the medical side, I fear it may be something like vertigo. Having been just diagnosed with BPPV myself the last few months, I can say it affects my movement to the point attention is needed any time I move quickly, in any direction. Imagine a goalie playing that position.
There were times early last season, CC just did not look right. It didn't seem like tendons or joints, etc. I have no actual evidence, just a gut feel. Seeing his reactions and thinking about it as it appears to me. Balance is a tricky thing when your inner ears are saying one thing, and your eyes and brain are saying another. Exercises help, just like muscle memory, 15k-20k reps needed to see significant improvement, but at least in my case I gotta be more aware of the things I do. And I can say for sure, any quick movement in any axis makes for balance discomfort.

That's one of the things I've noticed between Justin and JJ's write ups, JJ writes like he's pissed off all the time. Don't get me wrong i want the Hawks to win, root for them to win, but harping on past mistakes is pointless i just hope they learn from them. The sequence of events the Hawks org have made led us to 3 SC's, it could be worse we could've won none. And yes i know it might've been better. |

JJ taxed me a bit when he spent months bashing ADB, but reviewing (harping) on past mistakes is a normal condition of the human psyche'. Moreover, I hope the GM and his cronies are harping on past mistakes...maybe they won't repeat them.
It also confounds me why people on a message board are always "harping" on how other posters post or what others say. Either skip it or engage. Not that your post was the overt lecture often seen in these forums necessarily. |

That's a shame. At this time of year the scraps are more entertaining than most of the "insightful" banter from we, the experts. Next thing you know they'll be banning fighting from hockey.

Sure it is to a point but at some point it gets monotonous...no? I think you can skip it or engage as much as you want but some people will never move past the point they seem to be stuck on.
Look I get it, you reserve the right to complain/review mistakes, which is fair, but there is a point where pondering over the same thing ad infinitum becomes tired, stale, an exercise in tedium.
It may confound you but I find it funny you're complaining about people complaining about other people complaining.

This site was created for hockey fans to discuss hockey, of course there is passion and emotion that can happen during these discussions. But there has to be a level of common respect when responding to a poster.
If you or anyone else feels that this is an imposition, then I would suggest that you (goes for everyone) find another site to make personal attacks against posts or posters you do not agree with.
I see there has been a lot of deleted posts in the blog, next up is lengthy bans, time you guys read the CoC. |

Keep him at 10.5 Million or 11mil? - wiz1901
Yes keep him as a Hawk at equal or more money than Kane. This is how foolish this talk about Panarin is. Panarin has the uni-dimensional skill-set he does but has never been in the upper echelon of the whole NHL. I never find myself saying “McDavid - Panarin, Crosby - Panarin, Kane - Panarin.”

I understand your points. I may be proven totally wrong but I have already made it completely clear that I have confidence about next season. Not one of the teams that made the play-offs this year struck me as a complete, great team. Not one. The Hawks are not far away. Their record of last season is skewed downward by poor goaltending, uncustomary blown leads, an expected late season fall off after they were out of the play-offs and an awful, ineffective “Defensive System” that was a disaster.
It is ludicrous to pretend that the Hawks are simply full of massive holes when they can ice at forward Kane, Toews, Saad, DeBrincat and Schmaltz along with a second level of players like Hino, Hayden and Anisimov. On D we
have more than enough quality and quantity. We actually don’t have a true reading on how high the quality is as the “Defensive System” was simply so awful. A player like Forsling didn’t go from being full of talent and potential one second to useless the next.
It does not take a lot of additional wins for the Hawks to get 100 points and make the play-offs and I predict they will do both.
