The @MapleLeafs have signed forward Tyler Ennis to a one-year contract worth $650,000. #TMLtalk

This is such an under the radar signing that is going to be huge next year. Ennis' speed with the current roster is going to be a good fit.

I love how Tampa has to give up bit pieces and picks to get Karlsson but the Leafs gotta give up Nylander + to get a different, "lesser" defenseman.

Same old, Same old.

Before the JT signing:
Consensus Quote:
"Any team out of the six that gets JT is an instant favorite to win the cup except the NYI."
Troll Quote:
"Leafs have no chance of landing JT, he's going back to NYI or to SJ or Tampa for sure"

After JT signing:
Troll Quote One:
"Makes no difference, Leafs D sucks, they will go out in first round"
Troll Quote Two:
"Leafs will have to move out salary they are in huge cap trouble"

Good depth move for the Marlies
- TheMussel

Not saying your wrong. Guy hasn’t played in the AHL since 09. Doubt he signed here unless he’s legit in the running for the fourth line. Even if they move him to the wing I’d rather have his speed for 7-10 minutes a night than leivo. The fourth line is gonna be the only real competition at camp. Should be good.

Leafs have money, $650K is a good minor league salary. At least symba has a boner.
- winsix

It's actually shrewd in many ways. There's a good article in the Athletic by Mirtle that discusses the way money moves in the cap. On paper the Leafs have $12m in cap space, but the way they use the LTIR for Horton and the EL bonuses can have an impact on next year's cap - where they will feel the crunch.

Basically it demonstrates that if the Leafs spend is optimal, they only have about $3.5m in cap space. With this signing, it leaves them with around $3m, which might be a nice piece of change to have handy at the trade deadline.

Tyler Ennis will compete for the 3rd line LW spot with Johnsson.

Ennis is a LW, my guess he replaces Martin on the 4th line and can move up to 3rd line LW if there are injuries.. Maybe this means the end of Leivo in Toronto?

So not a C

Kevin Papetti

Ennis is a quick but undersized left-winger who is still just 28, but has struggled in the past two seasons. He was formerly a 40+ point scorer on a regular basis.

He will likely play sheltered minutes, but he can help his line to gain the zone and create offence. He's not a C

You're probably replying to plantheparade, but he'd better not be a Centre with a career FO% of 40.4%. That inflatable goalie from Canadian Tire would have better numbers.

My guess is that at $650k, Ennis is a risk worth taking, and as long as he can out perform Leivo, it provides additional cap space.

My bad.. Ennis hasn't played C in like 5 years...
Could be a decent player if he plays with good players.. Didn't get a lot of ice time in Minnesota.. Change of scenery could be good for him, and us.

Or to compete with leivo and Grundstrom for fourth line lw. Johnson took a big step this year. Ya he needs competion but I think he makes the team from camp

I read that also. So we are not likely to see much more happening outside of another value signing like Ennis.

I think it's a great signing, and at great value.

The Leafs have Marleau-Matthews-Nylander; Hyman-Taveres-Marner; and Kadri with Kapanen, Brown, Jonsson, Lindholm, Grundstrom, Leivo and Ennis jockeying for spots. Out of that list, you have to figure Grundstrom and Leivo fight for the 13th spot on the roster, and the loser probably gets moved out.

They’ll give him a shot to make the club. Worst case they bury him in the ahl and there is no harm done.
