If you get Sergachev you win the trade.

Addition by subtraction.

People love to discount +/- but the fact is Karlsson has been on the ice for more even strength goals against than for. When I looked last year, he was the ONLY top 20 defenseman you could say that about.

Despite what the advanced stats people want to claim, he didn't get all those minuses just as he was skating off the ice on a line change and he wasn't in on every + play either.

That stat also fully agrees with the eye test that suggests Karlsson looks a lot like Gardiner in his own end.

Rielly has never has a season with a +
i guess the same applies to him?

Yes. I’m armed with UGisms, and I’m not afraid to use them...out of context.

Didn't back read, I assume UG went on another rant.

Was thinking about the trade rumor....If Tampa has to give up Kucherov and Sergachev for Erik Karlsson, is it really worth it for Tampa Bay?

I agree its not a good stat alone, but when used in conjunction with other things it can have some value as a piece of a puzzle. Based on what ive seen of Karlsson, he isnt a good defensive defender. He does however help control the play.

Im not a huge fan of Karlsson though, Id take Doughty over Karlsson all day for example.

Jared Spurgeon

Spurgeon finished the season a point shy of his total from the year before in 15 fewer games. However, he had the highest P/60 among all defenceman on the Wild who played at least 1,000 minutes at 5v5.

Another thing that sets him aside from the Leafs’ two top guys in Rielly and Gardiner are his shot generation (RelCF/60) and expected goal differential (xG+/-) where the latter is a predictive stat for scoring that factors in shot quality, location, and type. Spurgeon’s 16.18 was second in the league among defencemen at 5v5.

At the same time, he’s a superb skater and is as impactful defensively as he is offensively. Positioning and attention to detail are at the forefront of Spurgeon’s skill set in that department.

Ok, now that you've clarified your position on wake and bake, we can proceed with the debate under more realistic conditions... so my response to you is, Purple. Monkey. Dishwasher. Oreos. Do you see the connection? Cool.

July 1st; We can't wait for the season to start. To have you here for 7 years is gonna be great for the franchise and the city.

July 6th; Sorry, bud... You've been traded to.... Ottawa. We hope you enjoyed your time as a Maple Leaf.

Gardiner is bad defensively now? Oh right, he's the full-time whipping boy now that Bozak and JVR are gone.
