We still have over $10 mil in cap space for this season. We could get ourselves some draft picks to take on a poopty 1 year contract. And then we'd still have space at the deadline for a rental D.(rental D) |

I'd say Kyle, but we are so screwed now...
Anthony Duclair will play with the @BlueJacketsNHL next season. A one year-one way deal at $650 000 - PatC80
that seems like a very good bet
no downside really. |

Sounds like him alright.
FFS he's willing to take a flyer on Ales Hemsky but not on a 22 year old kid who's a very good friend of Drouin and Domi?
- Scabeh
I feel like there is a short joke to be made here... Isn't Duclair almost 6'0 tall? |

Yzerman could have traded Johnson before his NTC kicked in July 1st, I believe that was reported to be the likely relief. As posted a lot of times on this thread take a look at all of the NTC/NMC that Tampa has. Who is going to waive to goto Ottawa?
https://www.capfriendly.com/teams/lightning
Also, I believe the buyout period is over, isnt it?
I tend to agree with your assessment of Karlsson. - Archaic
I forgot out the buyout period. And yes, I don't think anyone on Tampa's roster is going to approve of a trade to Melnyk's Senators. I don't see anyone volunteering a trade to a tire fire.
Sustr walked away today, so that saves 1.95mil against the cap. That will pay for 1/10th of Karlsson's salary. LOL.

Agreed. Karlsson is awesome. But he is no longer the best d-man in the league (arguable that he ever was) and I don't want Tampa being in cap hell just to sign up and play catch up with Tavares and the Leafs.
I think Karlsson goes somewhere else other than Tampa. Yzerman might want him, but Yzerman is smart enough to know when to walk away if Ottawa is demanding the sun, moon, and stars in return. I would be shocked if Yzerman parted with Point - and pissed. I think Point is more valuable to this team right now than the addition of Karlsson would be. - GalacticStone
The interesting thing is, what does Tampa have to give up?
If the Twitter rumour had any truth to it. William Nylander, Timothy Liljegren and picks are not enough for Dorion..
I assume Tampa would have to pay an even higher price than that... |

If I am Ottawa, I am asking for Brayden Point as a start.
And to me, that's a deal-breaker. Point for Karlsson would have been doable a few years ago before the ankle surgery. Now, not so much.

My favourite part is the fans who think holding out until the deadline is a better option than trading now. Guaranteed at the deadline the deals get worse and from even less teams. |

I would think something like this
Sergachev or Foote
Johnson or Killorn (or if PD is dumb Callahan)
1st 2020

No team will pay a higher price. Ottawa can trade him now, but he's a rental. Teams will give picks and prospects and maybe one good roster player, if Bobby Ryan is in the deal as reported, other players/salaries have to be moved. Sens might have to wait until the trade deadline to move him, only problem will be if Eugene can make payroll until then.

Both Killorn and Johnson have NTC's...so yeah, doubt that is happening. They would have to be complicated trades. Sounds unlikely. |

Not sure, but would be a mistake to include Sergachev for a rental. For a cap team to unload a entry level deal solid d-man - would not be expected from Stevie Y.

Pretty sure Karlsson would only be traded if there is an agreement on an extension in place.
Would be funny if he became a deadline rental only. |

When Marc Bergevin talked about icing a team that should be able to make the 2019 playoffs, he wasn’t selling hope; he was selling a fantasy.

In fact 10 NMC/NTC on Tampa. Including all d-men except Sergachev
