Statistically, with all metrics considered, it's actually a very even trade. Toronto gets a RHD they need badly and the Jets get the LHD they need badly. Toronto gets a little bigger, the Jets get a little faster.

Myers looks like he weighs about 150lbs....which is only about 5lbs heavier then Jake looks. |

Exactly....pretty much a pencil.
We trade our 2nd best D for the Jets worse D pretty much.
I'd take a hard pass if it was me.

I'm with you on this.
(frank) the guys becoming Pens fans all of a sudden or Hawks fans because they're winning.
(frank) the Leafs, now and forever.
But good for Leafs fans who can enjoy a good team after years of misery.
Respectuflly of course. - Scabeh

Stats prove otherwise.
They're both UFAs and Myers is equally effective but might cost less to re-sign whereas Gardiner's point totals will make him cost more to keep. RHD, bigger, more defensively sound and possibly cheaper. That's not a bad deal at all. |

It will be an interesting year now that we have zero grit....we'll see if run and gun and no hitting works. - Garnie
Dubas is competent, he will not wait until some garbage fourth liner intentionally injures Matthews or JT this year. There was no answer when Clutterbuck hurt Matthews. Edmonton hired Lucic to protect McDavid after Philly gooned him. It was a fail of an attempt. Need to get a big tough player that can skate well - Byfulglien is an example of a big tough player that can skate. If anyone touches their goalie, he would gladly rip their head off and sh!t in the hole. My hope is to add talent and toughness at the same time.

Winterpeg has had a better team then the Leafs...not worried about the stats.
I'm hoping to add without getting rid of Gardiner...it would be a sideways move at best if we did that trade.

I don't think there is huge concern. Leafs went from last place and 69 points to 95 points and making the playoffs with a strong first round against the Caps, to 105 points in the best division in hockey last year and another solid round against the Bruins. In addition, every single game was sold out - you would have had to sell a car to afford tickets to a Leaf Playoff game. This year, they added a dynamic player and with some luck will improve on the 105 points and get home ice and go further. We'll see. This team is built to win for many years to come.

When you think you're good...but you're not. Kind of like the Kessel deal (without the conference finals) |

Gardiner is a UFA after next year. No matter what, you have to do something or he walks for nothing. Either you trade him for somebody as effective but cheaper or you re-sign him and overpay him to stay. They're better off moving him or it's the same stupid poop they missed out on with JVR and Bozak. |

I think we'll get Jake signed to a good #

Leafs gambled that Bozak and JVR would get them to the second round, they also showed the younger players on the team that we are here to make this team better for the playoffs and support you not sell off assets for picks. The gamble they took was maybe a late first rounder and a second. Lost the gamble - would probably do the same again and they are right.

I was ok with the gamble...look how far the Sens made it the year prior. Just didn't pan out. Have to take a risk every once in a while. |

The stats def lean towards Gardiner.
Add in the fact he makes more money and is also a UFA.. they will both cost about the same.
I dont see the point |

What about trade him for someone who is less effective offensively, signed for longer on a cheaper contract and try to get an asset back in the form of a draft pick or prospect? |
