Deal.
I expect Montreal to take on bad contract if it can give them picks or players.
The Armia trade was a good move by Bergevin. I hope he does more instead of just wasting all that cap space. - Scabeh
Agree on the Armia trade. Habs can and probably will restock in the next two years. They should get something decent for Pacioretty

Let''s see how many more "true dihard hockey fans" become leaf fans...ive seen so many habs, canucks, Ottawa fans all of a sudden "go leafs go" including American team fans aswell ... once the leafs put together a good team......out come the bandwagoners... gotta give your a head a shake.. same ones years ago that said how much or a joke the team is, how it's not going anywhere.....but for us true fans who have stuck there threw the brutal times to now I commend yous, cheers.. my rant for the day.... thank you. - LeafsFan23
I'm with you on this.
(frank) the guys becoming Pens fans all of a sudden or Hawks fans because they're winning.
(frank) the Leafs, now and forever.
But good for Leafs fans who can enjoy a good team after years of misery.
Respectuflly of course. |

Leafs should really add a defensemen I know making the playoffs is a huge win for the leafs but getting bounced in the first round over and over isn't that exciting and they are wasting the young guns on cheap contracts |

Says he's from Illinois.... so I'm guessing no relation with Marc-Édouard - Scabeh
Just found it. They are cousins..and he's 6'5" now.
“We used to play hockey in the basement,” he said. “We had just moved into our new house, where we live now, and I accidentally hit my stick into the ceiling. It left a mark and a dent, and it’s still there today.”
Vlasic still leans on the advice of his sister, currently playing college hockey at Yale University, while his cousin, Marc-Edouard Vlasic, plays for the San Jose Sharks. |

Interesting.
M-E Vlasic is a good player and a good guy. Pretty funny too. |

I love Vlasic...not a team in the league who wouldn't want a guy like that. |

The problem (if you want to call it that) is that the best players are the youngest players. They took the President's trophy winners to 7 games and then one of the top couple teams in the second half of last season to 7 games.
In both instances the major difference was that those teams' best players were also veterans. |

Right and Spurgeon is a 3/4 so its an upgrade for the D
Thats what you want - senstroll
Spurgeon, would be a decent replacement for Gardiner, Leafs would still need to address team toughness issue. It won't go away.

They addressed it by letting Lou go and trading him Martin |

I thought so too but I haven't seen anywhere that was the case.
I guess it was just a learning experience for the young man. |

The real concern will be his skating as the game continues to get faster.
That contract is unbelievable... 8 more years at nearly 8 mill cap... until he is like 39 or 40 ?!?
It would be great for the Habs if they could trade him at he deadline.
If he truly isn't going to play the last 3 years, there may be a significant market for him. - Aetherial
He'll get the Pronger treatment.

Karlsson is an upgraded Gardiner that has won 2 Norris trophies been nominated twice more and a been a first team all star 5 times.
Basically if Jake Gardiner was the top Dman of his generation, Karlsson would be Jake Gardiner. - Schennski
Karlsson won his Norris trophies thanks to scoring, not playing well defensively.
He's a career minus player EVEN AFTER being the best scoring defenseman during multiple seasons, and while playing on a very decent Ottawa team that nearly made the finals.
GP: 627
P/M: -36
He's been scoring over 60 points most years and still lets in more goals be scored against him, then the points he puts up.
He's bad on defense.
I dont care about his Norris nominations or wins. Those go to the highest point getters, not best defensemen.
Thats why they wanted to split the Norris into 2, and have another trophy for actual defensive play, like the Selke for forwards. He's won the Norris while being bad defensively.
He's a better version of Jake Gardiner and very far away from the "best defenseman" in the league. |

Statistically, with all metrics considered, it's actually a very even trade. Toronto gets a RHD they need badly and the Jets get the LHD they need badly. Toronto gets a little bigger, the Jets get a little faster.

I don't think there is huge concern. Leafs went from last place and 69 points to 95 points and making the playoffs with a strong first round against the Caps, to 105 points in the best division in hockey last year and another solid round against the Bruins. In addition, every single game was sold out - you would have had to sell a car to afford tickets to a Leaf Playoff game. This year, they added a dynamic player and with some luck will improve on the 105 points and get home ice and go further. We'll see. This team is built to win for many years to come.
How are the Sens doing?

I'll be so annoyed if Marincin sees time with the Leafs next season or any season ever again. They guy was getting (frank)ing exposed in the A-(frank)ing-HL! |
