Heading into free agency, their focus was solely on the REBUILD. The three low to mid level experienced free agents I felt they would target and sign would be Grabner, Letestu, and some forward with grit like a Ryan Reaves. As an only higher priced surprise option to be brought in, after once Kovalchuk agreed to sign on July 1st with L.A., I thought they would possibly pursue JVR for their desperate need at wing, and then also use some of their depth at center to trade for additional help on the wing.
Last week, Larry Brooks took their free agency plans a step further by stating, "these are the rebuilding Rangers --- "GET USE TO IT FOLKS" --- this isn't a retooling or a reshaping".
As a result, if they were not going to bring in a high salaried, top veteran on a long term contract, "free" of having to trade high in young prospects and future top picks, then why would they ever in the first place want to consider trading similarly so right now for Erik Karlsson, if currently being focused in plan solely on the rebuild? |

I wish. I'd hope Gorton would take Ryan contract just get a couple of nice pieces from both Ottawa and Tampa. Never gonna happen though. |

I would never say, "tank", especially with new kids that will be trying to develop now at this level, who are in the need of specific types of veteran experience help, to also fill some specific roster holes, in key at wing, and on the right side of the back line. |

I believe he can only be awarded a 1 year deal through arbitration, due to his age. That would possibly make him UFA eligible after next season, but for now in filing for arbitration, no team can submit an offer sheet for him to at least protect Ottawa from suffering yet, another big issue this off season. |

I only posted that news on Mark Stone because I didn't see it in any of the previous comments, when looking to see if anyone here had any other source of news on the Karlsson update today with Ottawa and Tampa looking for a third team to become involved, so that he can be dealt to Tampa, who is in need to move some cap space first to make it happen. |

What’s intriguing is what the Rangers offer sheet to Kucherov will be - Slimtj100
Don’t need to offer sheet him. Ek says you are getting him in a three way with Ott and Tampon bay.
He obviously copied from guys like Yost but now that Ek says it it’s happening. |

LFG! I'll take Bobby Ryan, Ottawa's 2021 first, Coburn and Tampa's 2020 2nd.

This is going to be an insane deal. Can you imagine the Rangers' press conference with Callahan if he is the one who comes back. |

I just love the fact the Rangers have to be involved because they hold an important piece in this whole thing. |

Only 2 more years left on his deal. Can go on LTIR. I don't hate it. |

He only has one year left on his deal. If the Rangers can extract another young player or high pick from Tampa, do it. |
