True story: Even taking cap hits and term away, I'd rather have Folin than JMFJ.

I don't think people appreciate how rare it is to have a 60 point dman who is also a great possession player, especially one signed at $4.5m.

I don't want to include Ghost in a Karlsson deal. Having both would allow Ghost to move down the lineup where he should be as a 3rd pairing, PP specialist

Provy or Sanheim could be the PP2 QB without losing a step, and both can actually play defense. I would hold my best poker face, and offer Ghost and TK OR a first round pick but not both, and no salary dump. If Ottawa took Ghost AND TK off our hands, and we got Karlsson, it would be "the trade that ended Pierre Dorian's hockey career".

In Communist Russia, every player has the same Corsi, cap hit, and point totals.

If Ghost is that comparable to Karlsson, Has a better contract and is younger, WHY IN THE HELL ARE WE TRADING HIM FOR KARLSSON THEN ?

2 things...

1) If Dorion asked for Ghost, Konecny and a 1st I'd follow with, Who beside Karlsson are you sending back !

2) If you're willing to unload alot of talent on someone, WHY are you doing it for a defenseman and not a center or winger ? Defense isnt a hole like goal scoring is. Yes they signed JVR but I dont expect him to score 30 goals in a Flyers system. He played in an entirely different scheme in Toronto

He'll score 30 goals if he's on PP1. I don't think Toronto's system is what made him good at scoring goals.

I don't think people realize how little it matters that a defenseman can tally 60 points if he is consistently a minus player against good competition, and makes the players he is on the ice with statistically worse. Of the top defensemen in scoring, Tyson Barrie is the only other Dman who tallied more than 50% of their points on the PP. How many points could Provorov tally if he had a good partner and was on PP1? A LOT. The Flyers had a LOT of opportunities on the PP. Provorov could have been in the 70s easy, if they didn't need him so badly on the PK. Stats don't lie. Neither does film.

MacDonald and Hagg and Manning are the Flyers dmen who made the other players on the ice statistically worse, particularly Provorov.

It much more likely they don't want a long term contract with Myers and Morin working their way towards the NHL.
- hereticpride

Myers is not the same sort of Dman they need. Morin will never be an NHL regular. he is the defensive version of Scott Laughton: Homer blew a 1st round pick on him so we can't give up on him!

Myers is a perfect fit for the same spot inhabited by Provy/Sanheim/Ghost. Depending on how well Myers plays in camp, Folin is the Flyers 7/8 defenseman. So you have to choose between playing a guy who can make you better and sending Folin to LV? Did that make the Flyers better?

The Flyers don't have ANY good 200ft defensemen ready to make the transition in the next two years, and they need someone to steady their puck movers NOW. Or make the [playoffs and exit early again. That seems to be the plan now.

Folin is the guy you sign if you don't think the Flyers are good enough yet to win a playoff series. He might be an upgrade compared to Brandon Manning, but definitely not compared to Michael Del Zotto, or Calvin de Haan or even Toby Endstrom. He is a 6/7 guy on a team that needs a 1B/2A guy. It looks like the Flyers will commit to Ghost/Provy as their top pairing now, which means they are a fringe playoff team, that will pad stats against bad teams, or tired teams or teams that take the night off, but won't compete. Sad.
- hockeyal

No, Folin is the guy who you sign if you're looking for a RH 6/7 depth defenseman for a low cap hit and short term investment.

It's cute when people who don't understand Hockey at all try to use Corsi/Fenwick to make a point, =when they have been shown repeatedly to be essentially meaningless. Try goals for/against. last time I checked, they don't give standing points for Corsi.
