The most I’d offer for Karlsson:
Ghost, a 2nd in 2019 and one of Vecchione or Aube-Kubel. Any more or the insistence of adding Bobby Ryan to the deal would cause me to wish Dorion a good day and hang up the phone.

If Hextall is jumping in on Karlsson and assuming Karlsson would be willing to sign an extension, go for it.
I believe a reasonable offer would be built around this type of deal.....
Karlsson and Anderson
for
Neuvirth, Sanheim (ready to play now), Morgan Frost ( Future # 2 centre ) and their first rd in 2019 and 3rd rd in 2019 ( philly currently has two 3rd rd picks)
Dorian get's his 1) NHL ready player 2) NHL high end prospect 3) picks that includes a first rd pick - Revised12

Cost of doing business to get potentially the best D man.
Couturier and Patrick will be the top two centers for the next 10 years.

If you like your current doctor, I mean defensman, you can keep your current doctor, I mean defensman.
Keep on the path. No need to give up young assets for a guy with injury history. Even if it is for EK.

I love Ghost but he is not the player Karlsson was. I could see the sens wanting Ghost + for this deal. Karlsson took a bit of time last year to get it going but was really good by the end of the year. Yes the injuries are a concern as would be Ghost's ACL tear.
Now if they would accept Ghost, Rubstov, a young D man that might be off the radar (Wyatt Kalynuk) and a 1rst rounder. Obviously contingent on him signing. that would be more reasonable.
Now if Bobby is in the deal, then that could work if they are willing to take back Weise and Lehtera. Ryan is signed another 4 years....so maybe they assume some of his contract to even it out.
In the end I don't think the Flyers would trade for Karlsson… There's enough negatives but it's fun to consider. - landros 2

Bill Meltzer: Quick Hits: Karlsson, WJC Camps and More - bmeltzer
Great article today, Bill.
Would Hextall trade for a star in his prime at a cost agreeable to him? No doubt he would. Any GM would. Would he approach in gunslinger or casino gambler high roller fashion, all fired up to make a blockbuster trade for a superstar to boost fan enthusiasm, getting into a bidding war that involves allowing another team to name its price and then meeting it? Quite unlikely, especially when he knows the team isn't just one superstar addition away from winning the Cup. In fact, the team could actually go backwards a couple years down the line if he tears up too much of the youth he's meticulously been working to put in place.
Excellent summary and one to which I subscribe. |

What are the rules with deals and money - both cap and salary.
Can teams structure a deal were the team sending the player retains some or all of the cap hit. And, same question with the salary... Can the team sending the player retains some or all of the salary.
Thinking about Ryan as a part of the Karlsson deal. He's got four years at a high salary ~$7M. The Flyers have money to burn, but not cap space. So, is it "legal" to split the cap? I.e. on a $7M cap hit, each team take $3.5M hit on the cap for 4 years? But, the Flyers would pay the salary. Or, would the league would crush the deal. |

I don't think this EK deal will happen simply because of where the Flyers are in the Cup trajectory right now. However, Ghost's contract is tailor made for just this kind of situation. Imho it's not if, but when, he is moved in a trade for a major piece. |

Outpointed Karlsson last year?! You realize that Karlsson missed over a month of hockey coming back from major surgery and scored almost all of his 62 points in the last half of the season. Take off the blinders, no way would there ever be a straight up trade for Karlsson with the ghost. |

So....you would disagree that he outpointed Karlsson last year???
Also, I don't think Ottawa would do a 1-for-1 deal, but the Flyers aren't under any pressure to trade for him, while Ottawa pretty much has to trade EK. But I think Ottawa will get better offers. |
