Have to say, hextall signing JVR makes me feel more confident in him. First time he showed if the situation and timing is right he will pull the trigger. - funmaster18
Agreed. I like his patience and he is building a winning team piece by piece.

Not to be a negative nancy but I really hope Tampa doesn't get Karlsson. If they do I really don't see how we beat them in a series in the remaining years of G/Jake's prime. With Karlsson they're absolutely stacked and will own the East. - hereticpride
You mean like all those years the Caps were stacked and didnt win the cup?
Until this year where on paper they were not nearly as good as previous teams.

Something tells me three championships in 4 years and four of the top 20 players in the league is pretty enticing. Especially when your market is not developing. |

When were the Caps stacked? Only in the last few years have they found secondary scoring depth. And their defense has never been anything to get too excited over.
I'm talking about a team that has Stamkos, Kucherov, Hedman, Karlsson, Sergachev & Vasilevsky. That is an absurd core, even if one of those names has to go back to OTT in the trade. |

2) If you're willing to unload alot of talent on someone, WHY are you doing it for a defenseman and not a center or winger ? Defense isnt a hole like goal scoring is. Yes they signed JVR but I dont expect him to score 30 goals in a Flyers system. He played in an entirely different scheme in Toronto - twpguy
You mean the Flyers System that has 2 players with over 80 points and another with over 70? All 3 of which were career years for those players . Or a dman with over 60 points?
THat system?

There were multiple seasons where the Caps were picked based on their roster prior to season to be the best by far and up until this season where on paper they werent they won.
The point being this isnt the NBA where you assemble an all star team and just assume you are going to win. |

Lol, not a big difference from the mid level teams to top level, so little that to win the cup it takes luck and timing almost as much as skill |

Montreal is a real poop show. I was about to say that I'm shocked Price hasn't asked for a trade then I remembered how much they're paying him.
I really don't know how they haven't fired their GM yet. Nothing he's done has worked out. - hereticpride
It’s crazy. I don’t understand how some people will look at that body of work and encrust it with some air of infallibility simply because wellllll he’s an nhl gm so he knows what he’s doing how dare you think otherwise. |

TBH I wasn't too keen on signing JvR but given the history and the actual needs of the team given their current salary cap I'm actually not mad at it. JvR was used in an overly coached offensive-only role for the most part over the last couple seasons and with less ice time than Matthews and was still the team leader in goals. Kid really has a knack around the net. I can see JvR really transitioning into a veteran that commits himself to a more rounded 200 foot game and it paying dividends for the Flyers. I just don't want the signing to mean we kiss Simmonds goodbye. Biggest issues the Flyers have to deal with are in net and at the pivot for 3rd and 4th units. The defense is quite frankly in fantastic shape. Sure there's some setbacks with Morin's injuries and Myers getting hurt but honestly the homegrown D prospects in the Philly system including Sanheim who's really just only scratched at the surface have them in a really terrific place. Goaltending is another issue but hopefully we see someone rising from the youngster ranks and just taking over the role. Elliot/Neuvirth are a suitable transition tandem in the interim IMO. |

I can’t deny I would have liked Karlsson. I will also admit that I’ve drank the Koolaid on the Flyers prospects. I’d have moved several for him. But the possibility of trading Ghost made it a firm no for me. I know not everyone feels the same way about that, but he’s a player I don’t want to see moved. |

Personally I dont think the emotional stuff will affect him. The cyber bullying thing isnt directed at him. There will be some anger and distraction by it but it will blow over.
As for the stillborn thing. One thing we need to realize is for a Man it isnt as emotionally devastating. The person who really suffers through a stillborn birth or miscarriage is the mother. Women develop a bond with the baby before it is born. A man does not. This situation causes a lot of divorces because the father can not understand such a bond as we do not carry the child. Even upon birth it takes time for the father to feel an emotional connection with the child. Karlsson will be fine, his wife will be the one who suffers most.
Maybe it might mean more to him as my mindset isnt the same as most people. I see people who are pregnant and people related to them get super excited. When I hear about someone's pregnancy I say congrats to be be polite but I do not feel anything when I hear about it or even see a baby. It is just a tiny person to me.
I did not know about the seriousness of his other injuries though. I guess us Flyers fans just want to get in on some of that excitement the Leafs fans got. We want a drink of that heavily alcoholic kool-aid |

My offer would've been Simmonds, Sanheim and if need be a 1st. OTT can easily flip Simmonds for a need and Sanheim gives them a blue chip D prospect. Maybe Karlsson is worth more than that but given the situation Ottawa is in it's plenty fair.
The thought of Hedman and Karlsson together is just plain scary. I'm kind of hoping Dallas or someone else out west swoops in and grabs him at the last minute. |

Yeah I hope he lands in Dallas as well. Hedman is so beastly. I want nothing to do with Karlsson on the Flyers though. In a couple years the blueline will be built out to perfection (hopefully). |

Folin is the guy you sign if you don't think the Flyers are good enough yet to win a playoff series. He might be an upgrade compared to Brandon Manning, but definitely not compared to Michael Del Zotto, or Calvin de Haan or even Toby Endstrom. He is a 6/7 guy on a team that needs a 1B/2A guy. It looks like the Flyers will commit to Ghost/Provy as their top pairing now, which means they are a fringe playoff team, that will pad stats against bad teams, or tired teams or teams that take the night off, but won't compete. Sad. - hockeyal
