I had this idea today. I believe pure brilliance. only 1 or 2 hurdles.
Leafs trade for Karlson, If he agrees to the plan
Any amount of assets not on the roster. lets say Lilegren and 2 first rounders. as an example.
his cap hit for the upcoming season is 6.5 mil. easy to fit under the cap with Willy's
Plan is. Get him. sign his 8year/11 mil. let him play out the season. and trade him before the draft.
We have a true cup contender for this season.
we recoup assets with the trade, maybe more. He should have a spectacular season with a possible cup under his belt.
we are free of the contract after that.
and hopefully young D are ready to take over his minutes in 2019-20.
Boom.
Major hurdle is, sens fans will hate the sens if they set the leafs up for a cup. Only thing that might soften the blow is what they get for him. |

Not only can we not afford Karlsson, Lolttawa won't trade within their division.

i feel like Lou wasnt left to do whatever he wanted the last 3 years..based on his moves since Leaving the Leafs..
Someone had to be slapping his hands every once in a while .. - senstroll
Shanahan laid it out when he hired him.
"I don’t know how other people are going to imagine things
are going to go, but I spelled it out and I can’t be more
consistent and more clear about how I think this
organization can be successful. Lou bought into that. He
will certainly be a leader. I’m asking any General Manager
to be a leader. He will make decisions, but he will make
them with us."

Only 3 years younger. Pietrangelo is in a different tier of defenseman. If they can get Pietrangelo, they should definitely do it. Almost exactly what the Leafs need. Money shouldn't be an issue if you trade Gardiner and having 3 ELC defenders which they'll have in Dermott and Liljegren in the near future. |

Did you read what he wrote? We absolutely have the cap space for Karlsson this year. We could add Karlsson and another $5 million player for this year if we wanted. |

Good for both.
Toronto gets some cap space, which they dont really need but hey, you never know.
Islanders get muscle to protect their youngins that they’ve drafted, and Martin is actually a decent player on the 4th line.
Its a move for Toronto to be able to tweak their back end IF they can. Thats the only thing this is. |

That's what he'll ask for. Leafs should offer 5. Settle for 6.
Reality is, 20 goals and 60 points isn't worth 7.
JVR got 7 for 36 goals and as a UFA.
7 would be fair on an 8 year deal though. |

As a UFA, scored 30, plays physical. Not the same as an RFA. If Nylander is getting 7, it should be because they're paying for potential and UFA years. |

I have been summoned to give my thoughts and review of this trade.
Pros:
-Free up 2.5 million in cap space for future signings of Marner, Matthews, Nylander and Kapanen
-Matt Martin sucks
-The level of butt hurt on HFBoards
Cons:
-The Leafs are softer than ever, we are talking baby poop soft.
-Matt Martin was tough and made hits
-HFBoards posters all saying Lou Lamoriello still working for the Leafs because he made this deal
Review: Indifferent about this trade, stay or nay it really made no difference in the long run.
HFBoards posters are very stupid. I would not be surprised if many of them have HB accounts also.
That is all. |
