It might just be a favor to Martin because he clearly wasn't going to see the ice in Toronto this season. The cap space is a nice bonus but doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be used.

Seems like an odd trade, not in a cap crunch this season and trading away a player who may be able to put in some meaningful minutes for us for nothing. It may help next year when we need the cap space, but otherwise it's a loss. A very minor loss but still a loss.

Pretty sure it is all lumped into the 2.5 million dollar cap hit that now belongs to NYI.

he wasn't going to play

he's a great guy and isn't "done" yet...Leafs will be too fast and skilled to have Martin on the team. Cap space was much more of a need that Martin on the roster, esp. after adding Tavares and likely another quality defender.

gotta resign the kids most importantly.
